You can't save them all :(

Went and took a look at a service truck that was sitting out in a grass junk yard, thought it would make a cool low patina cruiser. Well the closer I got the more cancer I could see, as much as I wanted to take on a new project this one was to far gone for me. 6 cyl had been removed, original 4 speed standard was there, the bottom boxes of the service cab had rusted out and the lower cab was in terrible shape, as much as I'd like to, can't save them all.

Really nice looking grille and shell, the hood looked pretty good too.

What? Back where I'm from that's some pristine sheet metal. That's probably better than most of the winter beaters I drove in, oh, wait... Saskatchewan.

Re: You can't save them all :(

There is money to be made for sure, I could probably get it for less than $200, but I'm not interested in parting it out for my time to haul it out of there. If the cab corners weren't a complete disaster I'd consider it, but I'd rather spend my time driving my '72

Re: You can't save them all :(

So in all seriousness, what's a "lightly rusted but complete driver" (ie: not this truck) worth up there? Like a basic C10 with some cab corner rust but otherwise OK, which I assume is about as good as you'll find for unrestored?

I sold my last C10 in Sask for $75 after putting a $60 starter on it in about 1989, which I presume must have been the "bottom of the market" for trucks...

Re: You can't save them all :(

A "facebook friend" recently posted about finally putting his truck to pasture - It was his work truck and I guess caught on fire so he was done with it - I don't remember exactly what year but it was a 67-72 GMC with a utility bed on it - had a 400, TH400 and Gear Vendors under/overdrive. I wish I had the room for it because I probably could have just gone and picked it up/taken it off his hands or at least gotten it really cheap but as you said....

Poor girl, frame is probably roached too. Only goods for parts now, or to become a new Honda.

Complete running driver would get you $1,500 all day, probably listed for $2,500. The key is to find ones like these that aren't advertised for sale, just taking up room somewhere. Obviously finding them before they get to this state is the key.

Re: You can't save them all :(

Sadly old survivors are going to have major sheet metal needs, there is no "patina surface rust" in SK like what you'd get in the southern states like Texas.

A person with the right skills or another person with enough money could save that.

Bunny hug. The last time I got one of those she didn't leave me with enough cab fare to get home.

Yea I shouldn't complain about rust, you ON folk get it twice as bad, SALT SALT and more SALT, at least here we use a fair bit of gravel in the winter.

Part of me wants to rescue it and the other part of me wants to leave it there and enjoy my free time driving my '72

If you rescued it would you restore it or part it out?

Looks like a radio delete truck!
I'd be interested in the delete plate for sure.

I'm not big into parting vehicles out, I'm a saver and this one is to much work to save. There is money there to part out though.

Re: You can't save them all :(

I'm just starting on these trucks, I normally do Jeeps, the older flat fender ones. I have found that no matter how bad the Jeep there is always something I can use on them. Anytime I can pick one up I do, never know what part I might need off one of them.
