1954 GMC 5 window

Just thought I'd share a picture of the truck I just picked up yesterday. It definitely needs some love but it's pretty straight and not a bunch of rust. It has a 350 with 700r4 transmission and a Camaro rear diff. I did not need another project right now but could not pass it up. I have not paid a ton of attention to these trucks over the years but do you guy think that the visor is original to a 54?

It was a dealer option, not factory. Clay

Re: 1954 GMC 5 window

Thanks Clay54. Honestly that visor kinda sold me on the truck. I love the look with it on there. I thought It may move around a bit on the highway but it seems to be pretty solid on there.

Thanks for the info Clay54! looks as though it is somewhat rare to have one. It sure gives the truck a classy look if you ask me.

Re: 1954 GMC 5 window

WOW, that has all the Delux options what a score!

My 55 1 series came with all the Delux options, and the original owner I got it from said that in 55 when he bought the truck, the chrome front end and the quarter windows were a $15 option. it did not come with heater so that was a dealer add on in 55

Re: 1954 GMC 5 window

Thanks Guys! It is such a blast to cruise around in. It is kinda filling the void while the 58 is all torn apart.

Re: 1954 GMC 5 window

Nice looking truck. Most of the add on items except those that were part of the "Deluxe" trim package were dealer options that were sold and added on when the truck was sold or some times added to the truck by the dealer before it hit the showroom. My dad used to say that in the late 40's and early 50's the dealers made more profit selling the dealer add on items that they stuck on the cars and trucks than they did from selling the car. or truck.

Re: 1954 GMC 5 window

Thanks mr48chev! Yeah I believe that. I work in a dealership and profit margins on new vehicles are not what people think they are that's for sure. The parts and service dept is where the money is made.
