Headlight bezel repair

So the other night I get in my truck to drive home from work and turn on the headlights...the left one is out.

Get out to go tap on it and wiggle the wires (often brings them back to life) and the headlight starts to fall out, the wires caught it.

Upon further checking I find one of the 3 screws missing and two of the three tabs broken off, but still attached with the screws to the truck.

When I got home I did a quick repair by drilling a hole through the tab abd bezel and putting in small pop rivets.

You may not want to do it on a show truck, but to get a DD driving again it seems ok.

Broken off (failed spot weld) tabs.

You can see where to put the tab back on.

Drilled and ready for rivet.

Back in working order.

I have fixed them that way too. You can't see it and it sure isn't going to fall off again..... Good job!

Re: Headlight bezel repair

I had a similar issue recently. I was assembling the headlights in my blasted and painted radiator support. When i went to remove the headlight retaining screws, i soaked the screws in pb. Blaster but they were still tough to get out. i still had one tab on each side break the spot weld. I had another set of good rings so i just used them but put the old ones and broken tabs in a zip lock bag for hard times.

Btw, if you fasten therivet thru the direction shown in the photo, doesnt it interfere with the ring fitting around the headlight? I would think the rivet needs to go the other way.

Yeah, the rivets do stick out a bit but I didnt have any trouble getting the bulb in...in fact, it held the bezel on the bulb while I installed it so it made it a little easier to put back on.

That being said, you could put the rivets in the other way and it would be fine too.
