Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

I'm in the process of gathing info to buy some wheels for my 67 with 5 lug and 85 drop spindles. I found a good example of how i want my truck but since American Racing Torq Thrust IIs come in so many backspacings... I need help to get it right...

I want it like the first truck (light blue with white top) on this link:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=272783

I like the sucked in look in the front.

Any help would be great...thanks

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Backspacing is DIRECTLY related to wheel WIDTH.
How wide of wheels do you plan to run?
And what diameter wheels?

That truck has a narrower than stock rearend, so the backspace numbers will be off on the rear wheels.
But he is a member here,... so you can send him a PM:

thanks man...18x7 in the front is what im thinking. it looks like tt2 comes in 4.24 in the 18x7 and 4.50 in 18x8... i figure the 18x7 may give me the sucked in look in the front....hopefully

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Backspace will give you that "sucked in" look also.
Be careful using a 18x7 wheel.
It's an odd size to find a tire for.
Most go at least 18x8 with a 245/45-18.

Personally I like a 20x8 up front with a 245/40-20.
My blazer has a 5.25" BS on a 20x8 up front.
It's tucked more than most people like.

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Best bet is to get the right device, ideally as a tool rental. You use the tire you want, it bolts to the hub, and you slide the tire in and out to get it perfect. Then read the scale off it and you know exactly your width, offset, the whole deal.

Wish I had one, as I've done it by tape measure and trial and error... ugh.

I went with TTII's in 18x9 with a 5" BS all around. They tuck a bit in the back, but not enough to bother me.

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Thanks guys... It was a done deal at 12n today. I tried to get info a couple different ways but was antsy to buy. I just ordered 1 18x8 4.5 to see how it fits. I can use it on my 56 if it doesn't fit right on my 67

i hope so too. seeing that your 20x8 only has .75 inch more back spacing im hoping mine looks close to how yours does. also, i forgot to mention i got the torq thrust II with gray center...not the "D" but it was called the "hot rod" model. im sure you saw the fastnloud episode with the white 65 impala. im getting that wheel. i think it will be sweet...im planning 18s/20s and paint my truck white with the gray tt2s...slammed front...40 series tires...3 inches of clearance between lca's and ground...thanks for all your help...i didnt see many bs choices on the grays but maybe it will be perfect. ill try to post a pic when i get one on.

sweet...i got the wheel last night and mounted it while jacked up with no tire...looks like it will be fine. i have also decided to take lowlife's advice and try a 245/45/18. I have had 245/45/18's on my tahoe and seemed the sidewall was too high but when looking at my 18x8 and measuring this wheel is wider than the wheel i had on the tahoe and should spread some and look awesome. from edge to edge this 18x8 is 9 inches. i beleive the tahoe wheel was 18x7

I found a 245/45/18 toyo at a shop around the corner....it's basically new and he says he will sell it and mount and balance for $50 out the door...can't beat that seeing as the tire itself would be 100+ alone...

i'll post a pic after i have it mounted...probably mon or tues

that looks good man....all my backspacing worring is due to me wanting to ride 3 inches from lca's and still turn lock to lock... i had bags on it a year ago but went back static (may have to bolt my bags back up).

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

i went with goodyear eagle rsa 245/45/18's on the 18x8 with 4.5 inches of backspacing. I wish these came with more backspacing but couldnt find any. I may put this and the 245/45's on the rear and do 18x7's with 225/45/18's...in fact i found and bought the Goodyear eagle rsa 225/45/18's already.

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Anyone know if a 18x7 4.24 backspaced +6mm wheel would tuck more. The backspacing would be the same as the 18x8 pretty much. Im thinking a 7 inch wheel would be sucked in an inch but the 6mm offset they come in has me wondering??

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

looks like 6 mm is like 1/4 inch so it looks like more 4.24 inches of the 7 should be behind the mounting...

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

I had a pm from a guy who asked if I ever put the 18x7's on....I tried to send him back a reply but his pm was full.

yes, I put 18x7's up front and I love the outcome. they were 3/4" to an inch more "sucked in" on each side. Since the last pics, I bagged the front again and im tucking some tire. not sure the 18x8's would have worked. don't have a pic to post at the moment though

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

So I pulled the trigger myself today on the Torq Thrust IIs. Front are 18 X 8, 0 offset, 4.5 in backspace. With Nitto 421Q 235/55 18s. Rear are 18 X 9, 0 offset, 5 in backspace with Nitto 421Q 255/55 18s. I am super excited, just hope I did my homework right, does anyone see a problem using these on a stock suspension? Next step, lowering springs and shocks, just got to save up my pennies for a while now!

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

so you must have a 71 or 72. my 67 has the 3 inch drop spindles for the 73-87 disc brake conversion so I really don't know for sure on yours but I would be very surprised if you had any issues. You should be fine

Re: Torq Thrust II backspacing help ....please

Yes, I have a 72 with a bone stock like it came from the factory suspension. Once the wheels and tires are on, this truck will be my daily driver while I finish the restoration . And with the Vintage Air system working great I'll even be able to drive it this summer which I couldn't do before.
