72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

Hey guy's I'm new to the forum and have a couple questions about making my 72 C-10 2wd.... Right now it is a 4x4 with a 396 and a 4 speed tranny. I have a LM7 motor and 4L60E to put back in it, but need to know if there is anything major I need to know about the front end to convert it to 2wd? If anyone can set me straight on this, let me know......[IMG][/IMG]

Re: 72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

Why not sell this truck and buy a 2wd? 4x4 trucks are less common and hacking one is sort of evil.

Of course, I'm a 4x4 lover and it's your truck so...

Re: 72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

There have been many 4x4 blazer conversions to 2wd.
Same principles.
Swapping to an oem 2wd swb frame would be the easiest.
You will have to add a 2wd crossmember and flip the rearend.
I assume you want to lower it?

Re: 72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

I've never done a conversion either.
What is the end results you want?
Stock?
Lowered?
How much?

You need a 2wd donor truck.
Front suspension. All of it,... including the steering.
2wd trans and crossmember.
Flip kit for the rearend.

Keeping 6-lug wheels?
Switching to 5-lug?
2 choices,... 6-lug 2wd rotors or 5-lug rear axles.

This is just a start.

Re: 72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

I have never done the swap but I had a friend that did it on a Blazer. He went from 4wd to 2wd. A few years later he went back to 4wd.

From what he told me it was as simple as swapping all of the suspension over from the 2wd. As Keith states, that includes steering components. He did say that there were a few holes that either did not exist on his frame or they had to be elongated to match.

What part of NW Florida you in? I'm in Pensacola.
A front crossmember swap and components would be the best and easiest IMO.

Re: 72 4x4 want to make 2wd......

Im in FWB! More than likely I will be going to butlers to pull all the pieces for my swap.... The 73-87 stuff will work right? I thought that's what I was told. Want to get a set of drop spindles instead as well....
