Re: 87 SWB ..Pearl..

I'm lovin' them black rallys. Did you put them on there just for paint, or is there another reason they are on there?

Re: 87 SWB ..Pearl..

Got some more put together and cleaned today....I started this build hoping to get a clean uncluttered driver. I wont drive it to work much, but it will be fun to take the wife cruising and this body style reminds me of high school.. I did almost all of the work myself including paint. My buddy helped with some of the block sanding, as he has been doing paint for years. I was not sure about the rims and had to adjust the suspension some to make them work, but I am happy with the final looks. The rims and tires were slightly used and I got them for a steal. I reused , polished and painted everything I could, some things took a lot of time, but they were inexpensive. The paint cost me nothing but time. I worked at my buddies shop on several projects for free, (again time). I learned a lot about body work and paint, and he supplied everything including the paint..I paid nothing but some hard work....Some things I had to spend money on to do it right. The front end was about 1K and rebuilding the AC system was over $400, but most things were kept to a minimum..

Another vote for the trim. It really made a difference on Big Mike's truck.

So what polish and buffing pad did you use on the bands?

Re: 87 SWB ..Pearl..

I used a DA with 180, 320 grit. Then wet sanded with 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, then buffed with polishing wheels using jewelers rouge.

Re: 87 SWB ..Pearl..

Looks great,... but that driver's side headlight looks like a black eye.
I would add the stock lower valance under the front bumper also.
