Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

Small update. I drove the truck today with the recent upgrades. Big difference! It does not sound like a gravel truck anymore. I shifted through the gears and all is well. Disc brakes worked great also.
I added a pic of my goofy shifter. I got it off of a forklift that was left outside for many years and cut and welded it to my T5 shifter. Very functional.
I am ready for the Austin show on Friday.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

Show was great. Tons of trucks this year.

I had lots of offers to buy mine.
Don't be surprised if you see it listed on eBay.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

I see a couple fleetsides from Hale's Speed shop in those pictures, the bare metal one and the red with cream. That blue 56 slammed step side is bad ass!! Thanks for the pics.

I take it, the offers for your truck weren't in the ball park you would like them to be if you're looking at listing it

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

Spent some time chatting with Nathan at the show. His builds are very nice.

dubie, I did get some good offers, and a couple that were close. My hope is to use the funds to put my other truck on a faster track to completion. I am more of a Fast and Loud sitting on bags kinda guy. I do love the truck but it is just not me.

My truck made the reserve so it will sell on Ebay. I am looking forward to putting all my efforts into the bagged truck and getting it on the road soon.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

Well.... The guy sent me a deposit, and a couple days later got some bad health news. He asked if I would let him out of the deal and keep the deposit. I did.
I drove it to my son's house for a crawfish boil on Sunday and got stopped on the road by a couple that just wanted to look it over.

Deciding whether to re-list it or keep it. Decisions, decisions...

So thats the problem with high dollar Egay auctions, its happened to a buddy of a couple times. I am glad to hear that you kept the deposit, I hope it covered the selling fee.

Such a bad ass truck, you will have no problem selling it. Have you posted this in the 47-49 pic thread? If you have not you should!

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

Got my bagged truck bedsides back from the blaster today. They look better than I thought they would. They had a lot of surface rust on them. No rot at all. I am going to put on some epoxy primer tomorrow.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

I picked up the whole bed in Dallas off of Craigslist for 200 bucks. I felt guilty about it.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

A buddy of mine asked if anyone might need some 6-lug smoothies.
They are 22 x 9", 6 lug on 5.5 with 6" back spacing. They are made by GM and will fit most Chevy, GMC, Nissan, Cadillac SUV, and some Toyota models. There is also many old 6 lug vehicles these would bolt on.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

In a strange twist of fate, I re-listed the truck on eBay. I emailed the guy and told him I would honor his deposit if his situation had changed. A couple of hours before the auction ended, we talked and he said he really would like to buy it. (again) He FedEx'ed the money and it is going to be headed to Maryland next week. I will be spending some time online with my list of much needed parts very soon.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

I have not posted in a while but I am still around. The 59 has me so frustrated and I need to quit fixing and start building.
In the meantime, I found a little project that I have always wanted. I used the proceeds from my blue and white truck to purchase it. It was CHEAP!! The guy even threw in the 16' trailer it was on. We traded the 305 that was included.
It has a Camaro clip, a narrowed Ford 9" with ladder bar setup and all the trim. (Even the wood for the inside) It is in better shape than I could have imagined as I bought it sight unseen. I am going to put a 59 front end on it and keep it low.
I should probably put it in its own thread.

Re: My 1959 Fleetside Build

This will reek of blasphemy but I found a donor cab to cut up for my panel build. It is a GMC with a very nice lower windshield frame and firewall. I like the dash because it is different. It will still be a Chevy.
I truly hate cutting up a BBW cab but it is the only good option I have. The dash on the panel truck is cut up bad so I would need to many parts if I decided to by new re-pop stuff.
