47-53 Seat

I tried a search and didnt really see anything. What seat is everyone having the best luck using? My truck has an old junk seat from a nova (i think) and I need something better.

Re: 47-53 Seat

I'm using a 40/20/40 out of a 2002 Dodge Dakota. Love the bench / bucket combo with the fold down storage.

Cheers,
Ted.

Re: 47-53 Seat

Found that the seat centres on the steering wheel nicely when centred in the truck. There's didly for storage in these truck so this certainly helps. If memory serves, (I'm at work) there's about 3" space between the edge of the seat and the door. The only thing missing is a coffee cup holder which I intent to fab from billet aluminum and install in the front of the centre seat.

I built a full 1 1/4" square tubing seat riser rack to support them and since I like riding high in the cab, my head is about 2" from the roof of the cab. If you don't like seeing the seatbacks from behind, you might not like these, or if you were getting them altered, they may be able to shave them down... not sure.

I prefer a symmetrical look, so with the dual buckets and separate centre section this was pretty much the only seat I found that would fit the bill. I opted to use the 3 point seat belts from the jump seats in the back for mine. As I pulled them from a wrecking yard ( $25 per ) they are the minimal used ones, in excellent shape and dirt east to install (just like any aftermarket ones you find out there), just remember to grab all the torx bolts you pull with them, not the fact they are torx, just the grade of them.

Just my point of view and preference.

Cheers,
Ted.

PS Not the seats specifically, but I gotta get some pics up, so I'll add it to the next post of my build shortly.

Re: 47-53 Seat

88-98 Chevy truck feels like it was made for these trucks. That's what I run. Stock mount and I fabbed up legs and a cross brace to put the seat where I wanted it.

Re: 47-53 Seat

Here's the pics of what I'm using... keep in mind I haven't built the shroud around the base yet...

For a 40/20/40, they are centred in the right spot... for a bench... it wouldn't really matter. I like the comfort of buckets, the convenience of a bench and the extra storage space is great

If you have any questions... holler!

Cheers,
Ted.

Re: 47-53 Seat

If you don't have the seat frame, the 88-98 GMs bolt in pretty well. I don't know about heigth though.

I'm liking Ted's, though. Good idea on the shrouding. I hadn't thought of doing that to ours but I've got some tin...

Re: 47-53 Seat

I bought a older Dakota seat it's a full bench, flat top back (w/ headrest)and has a fold out armrest. Exactly what I wanted and the exact size of factory trim piece. I was going with a astro seat but after finding this one changed my mind.

Re: 47-53 Seat

I had scoped out some astro seats at pullapart about 6 months ago. It seemed like no one was pulling them, and they really were not in bad shape at all.

My 88 Bench:

And for some reason, it's not as close to the doors as Dan's. Not even in the full-forward position.
