Two wire tail light help?

Hey guys, about a year ago I picked up some reproduction 39 Ford LED Taillights that I was going to mount in the rear of the fender on my stepside. When I bought them I saw that they had two wires, I assumed that one wire was for the signals/brake lights, and the other was for Taillights and they grounded themselves through the mounting point. But just yesterday I finally got around to messing with them and I found out that the black wire is for ground and the white wire is for power. Having only one power source can I even use these lights on my truck? Correct me if I'm wrong but when I turn on the signals both the lights might flash since they are linked through the Taillight wire. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Thumbs up Re: Two wire tail light help?

I sure sounds like it. Most housing do ground though them selves. Are you sure the black wire is a ground and not just acting as one? What I mean is if the housing isn't grounded good the wire could be acting as a ground.
I found this on Speedway parts site.

Notes

Note: Due to the 1-piece backing plate design and factory crimped bezel, the bulbs in these taillights are not easily replaceable. Slight bending of the bezel may be required to remove the lens to access the bulb/socket area.

Wiring Code (OLD and NEW versions):
•3-Wire Housing
◦White wire = Ground
◦Black wire = taillight
◦Green wire = Stop/turn

•2-Wire Housing ◦White wire = Stop/turn
◦Black wire = taillight
◦Ground the housing

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Two wire tail light help?

Thanks for the reply, I'm pretty sure the black is ground, if I hook up the black wire to the negative battery post and hook the white wire to the positive post, it lights up. Plus the lights came with this

If that's the case then... you will either have just running lights are just brake lights/turn signles.
The wiring going to the back of the truck will have a wire for the turn/brakes.
There should be another wire for just running lights.
Depending on which wire you connect to in the harness.

That's unfortunate, I guess I'll have to find a different set of lights since these aren't any good for what I want to do. Thanks

Re: Two wire tail light help?

Sir if you are wanting to use those i can send you some instructions on what to get and how to wire it. I could probably even make you up a plug and play harness that would work. As long as your truck wired on a 3 wire system, a simple harness will fix your issue.

Re: Two wire tail light help?

You might also google turn as tail by diode dynamics. I have 4 of these just sitting at the house they might just be the store bought ticket to fix your problem. Check youtube on the videos of them. I see your in canada though so i know shipping is high....
