Throttle cable

And so the day starts.....
I made a quick run to the Hardware store this morning. On the way the throttle stuck a bit I gave it a quick rap and all was good. I got to the store and popped the hood open and saw my throttle cable was fraying. This was no surprise as I was going to replace it.
Now keep in mind that I have a new cable and gas pedal at home. Key word at home.
Coming home the cable snapped! I pulled off the side of the road and "improvised" a new throttle cable, well throttle rope .

Made it home and installed the new pedal and cable.

So what is the reason of this post? If you know you have some thing to replace replace it!

Re: Throttle cable

Whatever works Sal!!
I had to use a wire coat hanger thru the firewall like that once.
And used some orange road flagging for a fan belt. Got us a hundred miles home.
Pedal looks good!

Its a Lokar knock off I picked up off of &bay. I ordered a chrome one but they sent me this one instead.. the seller was cool and gave me a partial refund.

Right? It probably worked better then my rope did !
Another in a pinch fix was when we went fishing and we lost the throttle return spring on my buddy's 67 C10. We wound up using the elastic off of his son's underwear.

Re: Throttle cable

When I was a teenager a bunch of us piled in a friends car (67 Comet) and headed to the city 2 hours away to attend a concert. While there his throttle linkage broke. I hooked up a string, sat in the front and worked the gas all the way home. I remember jerking the string beside someone at a red light while he yelled smarten up! Forgot all about it until I read this thread, lol.
