2001 burb oil leak. help!

Hey fellas,
Never posted on this side before, im usually on the 55-59 or 73-87 areas. Got a question about my wifes 01 burb,(5.3) this sucker has been leaking oil for about 6mths. It leaks out the rear of the block. Im thinkin maybe a sensor back there somewhere? I used the search on the board but nothing useful comes up. Help! Im just a dumb ol 1st gen small block guy im thinking if i gotta pay to get this engine pulled to replace gaskets its gonna be $$$$.

Oil Press sensor is located directly behind the intake at the back of the motor. Right next to it is the cam sensor. It could be one of those, but if it isnt it could be valve covers, rear main seal, oil pan or there is a block off cover directly above the oil filter I have seen leak.

Seems to be coming from the passenger side near the top. Probably the sensors. Guess im looking at ana engine pull for a 100$ part btw i see your in biloxi. Im from destin. Left 13 yrs ago. Miss the biloxi-n.o. Cajun coast. Particularly the drive thru crawfish joints

You know, my Mom's Suburban is doing the same. Loses about a quart maybe between oil changes an its been babied all of its life. The one thing I've seen is that the 2001 trucks seem to have an oil leak than most other newer years for some reason. IDK? I've thought it was the main seal but I prolly should check those sensors again just to make sure maybe. Its also a 2001.

BTW to the OP: Saw in a earlier post of yours that your from gulf states, i'm from Mississippi actually too.

Well maybe i can get away without pulling the motor like truckdude says. The wifes burb leaks right at 1qt. In between oil change. Changes a little depending on how much driving it sees. Only leaks when running and seems to be from the area of the sensors. Yeah i miss the good ole gulf coast food. Love the northwest though, and i dont plan on moving back to that swamp ill stay in this desert as long as i can. They just dont know how to cook up here is all.

If its not the sensor there is a rear main cap that is prone to leaking

Bump up to the top. I'm curious what the fix was.
My 2000 GMC is leaking out the rear right now. I suspected the oil pressure switch and replaced it but it was not the cause of the leak. And had to buy a special socket to install it.
I've not heard before the cam position sensor could cause the leak. It's real tight back there.

First off, on a Torsion Bar Truck/SUV....Never pull a Gen III engine to fix oil leaks. The Oil pan comes right off, Transmissions come out easier if need a rear seal or rear cover seal.

Remove the intake if Oil pressure switch or Cam sensor need changed.
