Project grey hair 57 gmc

Just figured I would throw this together maybe I can learn some stuff and others as well. Life with my truck started out as a 1957 gmc 3/4 ton long bed. I bought it around 8 years ago with intensions of doing something but while i was in high school i started racing like a dummy and lost interest so here we go again.

Heys a few pictures. One is from quite a few years ago when I could ride it around the house haha. Cant find any pictures from when I first got it but it did have all the grill and headlight peices.

I notice it has a later model bed on it. Are you keeping that or changing it back to a 55-59 style? The only thing that caught my eye was the side marker light. That 57 hood is so damn cool

Heck no that bed is history haha. I did buy another 55-66 bed off a farmer a few years ago its pretty decent needs some patch work. Then in november I had a craigslist post wanting parts and a guy called me and had new front and back fiberglass fenders. I really wanted the back ones but worried about the front ones. I held one up and not quite sure how well its going to line up but for what I gave for all 4 its going to work out ok either way.

And the hood haha Dad mentioned putting a peice of aluminum inside and a emblem of some kind in it. I kinda liked that ideal. I did recently come across a pretty good 57 chevy hood.

And please anyone dont rush me because I plan to take a few years on this haha. Im still paying on my house and have a race car to haha.

Heres another thing I hate a long bed so I am switching frames. I have access to a FREEFREE 1981 c10 frame so thats what im using. Some hate them but from what I have seen some of them seem pretty decent. Im not building a show truck but plan on a daily driver.

Looks a little rough but I've seen worse brought back to life.
Is that the original engine?

Yeah 8 years ago it wasnt nowhere near what it is now. Very disapointing but what can ya do. I cant find any trucks around here that you can get your hands on.

Yeah it is the original engine a 347 and it did run. The way it looks its gonna get scrapped before long.

Some one may want the engine for more than scrap.
Like I said I've seen much worse come back to life. It just takes patience and money. I've had my truck since 92 and it's only been the last year that I made any real progress.

Yeah I had a parts truck I sold to a guy and it was far worse than mine and he has it looking pretty good now. Its primered....I have advertised that 347 on craigslist for awhile and no hits.

So i ran across a ezchassis kit that a guy bought and didn't use. Anyone had any experience with one of those kits?

cheapest and easiest way to go is to use the stock frame
it's a lot of work to make a frame swap work with your truck

Ok guys sorry for not posting anything just been kinda busy lately and not doing much.

So after much thinking im pretty convinced ill be using he ez chassis swap for 73-87 frame. I know some don't care much for this swap but after looking at many pictures I think its worth the risk.

Looks like ill be fixing my original doors also was going to buy new ones but things change.

also after doing some research lmc seems to have the best overall pricing on cab corner and other patches.

Just stuck it on the frame to see about how it would look and to make mounts or go with ez chassis kit. tried calling ed couple times leaving messages and still no answer or return so not sure whats going on.

Anyone going to charlotte auto fair in April??

Have you checked GMC Pauls for sheet metal? Paul's an awesome guy to deal with, the quality of his parts are top notch and his prices are usually some of the best out there. Not all cab corners were created equally and the ones I got from him are very high quality.

Sorry guys for lack of activity. Been getting my racecar finished for this weekend.

Spent some money for this in the past couple weeks.I have.both steps, inner and outer corners, seals and door pillar. Also went ahead and bought a new radiator support.

I did buy a set of doors that are pretty nice. They will need new lower inside hinge. So on my next parts order ill be getting those cowl patches and the upper and lower grille sections. I thought i would fond some at charlotte but no luck.

Also Monday I sent the money for a ez chassis kit. A chunk pf money bit hope its worth it in the long run. If anyone contacts him about a not please tell him sammy mitchem said something.

I also tried snatching a trans am rear end from my dad but need te torches to get t out. Hopefully Ollie get some pictures soon.

Oh and I did forget a guy came from Ohio and took the 347 back with him for $100. I tried advertising frame and no bites so I hauled it for scrap I think it was $121. So im doing good I only paid $200 for the whole truck about 8 years ago Haha
