Basically the same thing- it's still a 1:1 lift ratio. It's not necessarily bad- I actually though about using this setup on my pickup- but I would definitely run a convoluted style bag.
Do you mean a sleeve bag? I hate to keep asking questions in "your" thread, I am not trying to hijack

Yep. I'm an idiot. I meant non-convoluted(sleeve). These will ride better and give you more lift in a straight up and down 1:1 setup like this. No worries on the threadjackin'- I'm sure I'll repay the favor at some point

Thanks! I'll check 'em out. Sounds like a cool project you've got going.

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

gringoloco,... have you ever thought about flipping the crossmember brackets that attach the front end of the trailing arm? I'm thinking about helping the pinion angle. If you swap them "side-to-side" and flip them upside down,... it would raise the front pivot point "up" on your ECE crossmember. I'm subscribing to this one!!!

It's a good idea if you're not going too low. The problem with flipping them is that with the higher pivot point, the trailing arms contact the frame in front of the springs much sooner.

When I bagged it the first time, I used the weld-on ECE saddles and set my pinion angle according to ride height. If I run into any problems, I will either reposition them or use angle shims to correct. My ride height will be about 5" lower than before, so I will probably have to do something...

Hell yeah Chris! Good job on the slots for the panhard mount. I ended up ditching mine alltogether and am almost done with my Watts Link install. KP makes some really nice stuff. I've been extremely happy with their product and service. My only problem is finding time to work on my heap. Really enjoying the progress pics. You're doing a super job, keep it up and good luck!

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Hey Chris,

While you've got your truck torn apart you should put that early front cap on there then your truck would be absolutely perfect.

When I finish mime, our trucks could be twinkies except for the color... and the interior.... and the engine....and the trans.....and....and.
Ok so maybe not twinkies but when I come to visit and we go down a few at Superior we'll certianly draw some attention.

Looking good
With the ECE xmember, it's easier to make spacers for the trailing arm mounts since they bolt on. Then you use stock holes for the xmember.

It's definitely in the cards, but bodywork/paint is down on the list a few notches. I have a '70 pickup that is sorely neglected and in need of some attention too once this little project is done...

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Made a little progress tonite- finally. Before I started welding, I spent some time setting up a dedicated 20A circuit to feed the welder. The first pic is my test piece. I wanted to make sure I was getting good penetration, plus it has been a while since I laid a bead. I think It will work...

I got the outer plates tacked, well actually, stitched in. Besides just running a bead around the perimeter, I also did a few plug welds in the existing holes in the frame for some insurance.

After I got them where I wanted them, I marked the excess....

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

...and lopped it off with a cut-off wheel. You can see that I made the cut a little bit above the bottom of the frame so that when I run the bead there, it will not be an overhead weld. I HATE overhead welding...

Everything so far is going well and it all ended up level and symmetrical. Guess all the obsessive measuring is paying off. The front to back is not level- it is parallel with the frame. When I set the jackstands I had about 1/8 bubble on the top of the frame rails and that is where I set the notches. Side-to- side and up-and-down they are level and plumb.

XXL is just yankin' your chain. Could be cool though. Hmmmm...

So I spent some time test fitting the inner plates. They require a lot of trimming/fitting because of the panhard crossmember. I started out by clamping a straight edge to the framerail to use as a guide to cut it straight. This allows the inner and outer plates to be parallel.

Next, I made a cardboard template of the inner plate and cut it to fit. It is clamped in place and ready to burn in. I also fitted the top cap. Next step is weld it up and cut the frame!
