61 disc brake options

So I have been looking for donor trucks to take the disc setup out of and I found a 71 C10 for a good price. After reading the sticky about converting I am wondering if a newer model donor would be easier or better. Anyone done this recently and have some advice on what year donor to look for?

Re: 61 disc brake options

I found a 1989 3/4 ton pickup truck with the crossmember and everything for free. Will this work for my 61? I know my rims will not fit because this has eight lugs.

Re: 61 disc brake options

Any reason you would want 8-lug front wheels?

Re: 61 disc brake options

I would not want 8 lug. I actually went with a 83 C10 that I found on CL. For $160 I am getting the crossmember and all components, master cyclinder, brake booster, proportioning valve, power steering components, and for another $50 I can take the steering column with tilt but I probably wont. Again, there's an issue with the lugs on the donor, there are 5 lugs and my rims are 6, but I saw where someone swapped rotors from another year that fit the spindles. Cant find it now though.
