Lwb cross sills (help!)

Well it's getting late here I don't wanna leave a job half finished so here's the big question on the longbed there should be 5 large cross sills and I only see enough bolt holes for 4 and I guess the small support sill. Where is this goth cross sill near the rear supposed to be they are the number 3 sills according to the lmc catalog but give no further help. If I had my computer not accross the city I would research it but if I could get some quick help?

Re: Lwb cross sills (help!)

Try this link.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=581185

And... from Mar-K

"The first cross sill connects to the second bed strip hole that is 3-3/8 inches back from the front of the bed. The second cross sill connects to the third bed strip hole that is 15-3/8 inches back from the front. The third cross sill attaches to the bed strip hole 26-3/4 inches from the front of the bed. The fourth cross sill connects to the eighth bed strip hole at 72-1/2 inches from the front, which coincides with the rear of the wheel well. The fifth cross sill connects to the ninth bed strip hole at 83 inches from the front. There are two smaller cross members located at the front or beginning of the wheel well and at 60-1/8 inches from the front of the bed. One reinforcement strip is 72” and one is 49-1/2”. Attach these reinforcement strips to the bolts from the bed sides and the wheel well. Mount the 72” at the front of the wheel well and the 49-1/2” reinforcement strip fits between the wheelhouses at 60-1/8 inches."

Re: Lwb cross sills (help!)

There is only one reinforcement strip shown in the picture of mine above that you copied from the other thread. My truck never had the 2nd one that Mar-K said I should have had. The only cross sills that get bolted to the frame are those at 3-3/8" (1st), 26-3/4" (3rd), and 72-1/2" (4th) from the front. The rear cross sill bolted and welded to the bed sides also gets bolted to the frame through the brackets welded to it. As I recall, the other cross sills (2nd and 5th) and reinforcement strips are only bolted to the metal bed strips and just rest on the frame.

Here is a picture of mine taken at a slightly different angle that better shows the sill and reinforcement strip depths.

Re: Lwb cross sills (help!)

Diging this up... it looks like there should be a short cross brace going between the wheel wells, otherwise there's a large unsupported area between the 2nd to read cross brace and the high spot on the frame with rivited crossmember.

Was there a brace here from factory and if so, where? I don't see it listed in my catalogs.

Re: Lwb cross sills (help!)

I found at mar-k "67-72 Fleetside Bed 49.5" Reinforcement Cross Sill With Wood Floor" and I guess this goes at the mid-point of the tubs but I haven't been able to find any pictures to confirm this. There are no frame holes for it so I guess it must just float like the other reinforcing strip?

That 49-1/2" reinforcing strip is 60-1/8 from the bed front. That should line up with one of the holes in your wheel tubs and with a hole in the bed strips.
