lift kit for 68?????

quick question, i found a lift kit (front lift springs with rear blocks) that fit 69-72. What is the difference between a 68 to 69 frame? will this kit not work?

Re: lift kit for 68?????

The 67-68's have shorter springs IRC.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

so would that mean that both the front and the rear leaf spring length will be different from 67-68 from the 69-72 set up or is it just the rears that are differnt lengths?

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I "think" it is the fronts that are different. The widths may be differnt also.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

Are you talking 4x4's with leaf springs front and rear?

I am not sure about lengths but as far as widths go......

I believe that the fronts are all 3" wide at the frame hangers on each end and 2.5" at the axle.

Rears are where 67&68's are different. They are like the fronts 3/2.5/3. The rears on 69-72's are straight 2.5".

Right now I have both a 1967 and a 1972 chevy k10 frames in my driveway (doing a swap). I imagine if you wanted to be able to find lift kits easier you could use the rear spring and perches from a 69-72 on an older frame. Frame swaps get silly really quick, trust me!

I am talking about 4x4 with leafs on the front and back. the Rears have a tapered spring on the 68? is it hard to change the spring perches to a 69
spring set up? Good luck with your swap thanks for any info you can give me

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I have not looked really closely at the rears but I imagine you could take off the rivets that hold on the old brackets (grinder, drill, chisel, torch) and bolt on the new ones. I just am not positive if the placement is exactly the same. Before I got my newer frame I was talking to livrat about buying newer perches off of trucks that he was parting, so Im assuming it is R&R.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

ok I found a site that has the specs for our springs
http://www.generalspringkc.com/index...parent=13&pg=1
says the fronts are the same
does not list the rears for 68 or 67 but it looks like the measurements I took look to be the same length and width at the hanger. I guess all we need to find out is the width at the axel.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I'm pretty sure that 69-72 use shorter rear springs that 67-68.

Your best bet would be to do a rear shackle flip and new front springs for 4". I remember looking for my truck as well and no shop knew the difference.. search on the forum for some details since I know this comes up about once a year.

I did slightly longer front shackles with an add-a-leaf in the back. Very mild but I gained 1.5" and run 33" narrow tires

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I got a 6 inch tuff country ez-ride on my 68 k10, and all i did was did the front how your suppose to do it. In the rear i have 5 inch blocks and put add a leafs on the stock springs, worked just fine. The difference is that the 67-68 rear leafs were 56" and 69-72 are 54", or thats what i've heard. Hope this helps.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

So, for 67/68 the 69 leafs will work in the front but the issue is the back?

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I believe you could also use some kind of spacer between the newer springs and the old hangers. The trucks had either 52" or 56" springs and the 56" are an option from most lift companies. You can get 56" springs and make up some spacers to fit between the hanger and leaf eye on both sides I wouldn't think it would be a problem doing this but others may chime in to.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I want some 33's on my 68 burb and need a little clearance.
flip kit link - http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new...duct.php?id=98
Ordered the flip kit today, I'll let ya know how they work in the rear.
So for the front this type setup should work except shocks.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

Mt Man Chad I would go with 2-4 inch depending how much clearance.

Re: lift kit for 68?????

I just ordered a skyjacker 2.5 lift, front leafs and rear blocks. I'll see how it rides and decide if I flip.
