Welding my 14 bolt and sprung a leak!

I was re-doing my traction bar on my jeep's 14 bolt and it now have a small drip out of the press joint between the tube and center section. Damn. And on top of the housing a small bit of oil pulled up im guessing thru some porosity. No biggy but i thought id share it with yall.

Is that a homemade bar? It kinda looks like an Off-Road Design bar.

Re: Welding my 14 bolt and sprung a leak!

Since we are on the subject, Has anybody ever welded the tube to the housing?
I know one is steel and one is cast, but would it be stronger if done correctly?.......Pre heat...Post heat....etc.

My understanding is that it all has to do with the post heat/cooling rates between the two metals. Petersons 4wheel did a write up on it a couple of months ago, I'll have to flip through and see if I can find it.

Re: Welding my 14 bolt and sprung a leak!

Weld the tube to the diff.14 bolts are known for spinning the tubes.Just pre and post heat.Using a high nickel rod doesn't hurt either. But many have just used a Mig.
