Re: 5.3 engine in AD chevy TRUCK ??

Your project is looking good. I have a 305, carborated, still in a totaled 84 Camaro. It only has 10k on a fresh longblock. I don't have a lot of experience pulling engines or doing engine swaps of this kind. I have no idea what I need to keep or what I can strip off the engine. Such as all the polution control stuff etc. If you or anybody has any advice I would sure appreciate any feedback. Or if you know of any links that have detailed how to's on this that would help to.

Good looking AD truck you have . I would eliminate the ac on your motor, smog pump, you can reuse your power steering pump if you like ,anyways you going to keep the factory suspension in your truck? if you do ,all you have to get is a bolt in cross member for your motor mounts and tranny.
my 2 cents.

Re: 5.3 engine in AD chevy TRUCK ??

Actually I have the front suspension from a 1980 chevy truck as well as the stearing box and steering column. I'm going that route to keep the cost down and still have IFS, power steering, breaks etc.

and ls6 intakes arent worth the time. if you want to see a gain get the edelebrock carb intank and make an adapter to run a throttle body.

all the ls1 style intakes starve cylinders 7 and 8, and the carb intakes mends this problem.

your truck intake is probably the best for you right now.

What about using a FAST intake? Does that give you more ponies? Does it starve cylinders 7&8 also?

Re: 5.3 engine in AD chevy TRUCK ??

it does in higher rpms, like near redline.

but with a big cam is starts to effect it lower down.

the carb intake those is the best one hands down, and its not very expensive. if I wasnt going forced induction I'd have one.

thanks, the covers are factory GM parts. the motor will be painted to match the truck in base coat/ clear and also the covers will be painted. the truck will sit idle a lot and aluminum seems to oxidize and get chalky in our humid climate.
