Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

The shop is drama for me. It's an awesome building with way better concrete than you'd expect. Lots of room. I'm moving though. We kind of got forced into this place because the clock was ticking. We had five kids under the roof four years ago and in another couple years we'll be down to one. I want to be further in the woods. I'd really like to deck it out, but not just for the next owner. It's almost as hard as planning a truck build and sticking to it!

Killer progress on the bed! You are where I was on my bed last fall. Looks like the new air file works great. I have that on my shopping list.
Keep up the progress

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Thanks dudes! Wifey hopped in her new ride and went to see her Momma so I've got tonight and this weekend to get busy! I got one side whipped last night and picked up some more filler and epoxy today. After just a little practice I've got the sander figgered out good and MAN I wouldn't do it again without one. You don't just lay into it with this thing. Kinda like taking short bursts and leaving it just a little high. Then take your hand block and feather it out. WAY, WAY faster and very flat. I've got a pair of 110V compressors set up as lead-lag and the second one rarely even kicks on. If you hammered down it'd kill the both of them. I'm going to do all I can to get this thing sealed up on Sunday.

Oh, and I should retract my previous comment on the Dura-Gold paper. I've only changed it out like 4 times and lemme tell ya, there's some dust on the floor!

Too bad you live so far away, John. I'm sure you could get a bunch of offers to let you practice on OPS (other people's stuff) ...starting with me!

I have a feeling you'll be able to do yours with nothing but a Scotchbrite! I've been through a gallon can Evercoat and three tubes of Halftime. Just picked up number four. I'm sure I've swept up about 80% of that

I'm humbled and thanks! We were just talking about C-9 last night. Still don't know exactly how I want to do the white top or if I'll do the white grille like you did.

I've been at it since early this morning. Couple trips to town in there but otherwise to the bone. Just came in to eat then I'm headed back out. Made the rookie mistake, didn't want to drive down town for Half Time so I got a bucket of Bondo brand bondo at the jiffy mart. What an idiot! The stuff takes longer than Archie Bunker to get hard then still just instantly clogs the paper. Dunno if I'll get any primer out tomorrow I've done a jillion cycles - filler, sand, filler, sand, filler, sand.... and still have plenty to touch. I didn't open any gearboxes in here but the house is wasted. I gotta get the stink outta here before Wifey gets home.... Brats are burning, will report with some photos tomorrow!

I changed colors in my mind a bunch of times but once the rest of the build was coming in line I couldn't think of a cooler color. Except Fathom Green maybe... Nope, it's Butternut!!

Bro, I am watching from the middle east and I need some progress... My truck is rusting, I mean resting, peacefully in my garage... All I have is this to keep me motivated.

I hope they're taking care of you over there. I've done some travelling in my life and there's no place like home! I love seeing the updates on your ride. Are you going to try that patina look? I think it looks pretty sweet and it'd be easy to go back if you got bored with it.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Okay, so I haven't been just sitting on my ass over here. I've got close to 100 hours into this mess since I last shut the welder off. I've been sanding, hammering and filling over and over again until I finally convinced myself that it'll never be perfect. The primer of course showed the thousands of little spots that I couldn't see just right. It's sealed and going into hibernation until I'm ready to finish all this bodywork jazz and put some color down. Next up, motor, exhaust, chassis boxing, brakes, clutch then mock up with bedwood. Maybe then I'll get back on the sandpaper and finish this thing. Have I mentioned I hate bodywork? Rolled the short chassis out for a wash too. It just looks **cking fast like it is!
