I installed this serpentine set up on my 77 GMC Sprint (El Camino) and it was great. I have installed them on other vehicles and always had an issue with the upper radiator hose clearing the alternator fan. On mine, I installed a swivel thermostat housing and made an upper hose from a piece of exhaust tubing and two rubber hoses. It works great.

Yes, I do have some SBC kits.

Charles, that looks great! I've got a 74 El Camino 454 car that I would like to redo someday. That car would be project #87. Is that kit one of the two I sold you?

Thanks, Tom

Re: Serpentine belt conversions

Do you still have these available? I have a 72 C10 original 350 that I would like to upgrade to serpentine setup. I also am running a vintage air system so I need the correct bracket to adapt the compressor.

Let me know, Rick

No, it will not work with the deep 4X4 shroud. I'm thinking it would work with a 2WD shroud on a 4X4 truck. I have a local freind putting one in a 72 4X4 and he just got the 2WD shroud to see if it would work. Also won't with the factory upper metal tube. A non ac set up uses a dummy pulley in place of the ac pump therefor it uses the same belt. Sorry no pics of any installed. Shipping would be 67.66 Thanks, Tom
I have a completely factory stock 1967 327 in my truck with headers, Edelbrock intake with the oil fill tube...

If I understand you correctly it will not work with that oil fill tube...

I don't have any brackets for your vintage air compressor. Maybe Vintage air would have a bracket kit to mount it in place of a R-4 pump. I do have one available.

These will not work on a 68 and older engine. The heads do not have any holes in the ends for the brackets.

Thanks, Tom

Re: Serpentine belt conversions

Tom,

So that I know what I am getting myself into, let me see if I understand what I will have to do to make this work on my 72 C10.

Buy your kit minus clutch and fan - I am running electric fans COST?
Buy a reverse flow water pump for 88 Chevy 350 setup - $35
Figure out how to mount Vintage Air compressor on this unit - ??

Also, what kind of gadget do I need to find to use this alternator with my year of truck? Is there an aftermarket pigtail or something that you are aware of.

Appreciate the help here,

Rick

Rick,
25.00 less for the kit minus the fan and clutch.
Yes on the 88 up water pump. It reverse rotation, not flow.
I can't amagine that Vintage Air doesn't have a bracket kit to mount the pump in place of a R4 GM pump.
You would need the pig tail plug for the alt which is available from any GM dealer and probably other sources. It is a internally regulated alternator vers the 72 had a external regulator. It's my understanding that you can eliminate the wiring and regulator and run a single wire to the new alt. Many guys here have done this, you might tap them for some info.
Hope this helps. Tom

Re: Serpentine belt conversions

I bought one of these conversions and had the alternator reconfigured internally by an alternator shop to a one wire alternator and it works great. This was much simpler than rewiring the alternator and wiring harness of the truck.

What do I need to buy to run this setup without an ac compressor? An idler pulley?

Thanks!

Yes, an idler pulley that takes the place of the AC compressor. I can do one less the AC pump and with the idler. 40.00 less w/o the pump. Thanks, Tom
