I have been following this board for a month or two now, and im curious as to the percentage of you who prefer

Restored?
Modified?
4x4?
Anything as long as it is a 68-72?

A lot of it depends on what you start with. My truck is in decent shape, so I am gonna keep a stock look with a few upgrades under the hood.

I voted for 4x4, but I like pretty much anything. What about 67's?? :p

I prefer restification, but money is of paramount importance. Restifying allows me to remove anything that I deem to be of little importance, i.e., the trim on the sides of the body, essentially "cleaning it up". I prefer that the mechanics of the truck are utterly reliable and, therefore, utterly safe...for me and anyone else I may be on the road with. So, disc brake conversions don't detract from the truck, but I guess that the only airbag on MY truck will be the one on this keyboard, or behind the steering wheel.
I believe my truck should be comfortable to ride in, and easy on the eyes, regardless of color of paint, or the type of upholstery.

Anything else is just fluff.

Mine is a 4x4; I prefer restoration over modification and prefer modifications using factory parts to aftermarket. I do not have the time or money to do a perfect restoration now (and may never), but that's what I prefer over anything else.

i would like to do a bit of each...i plan on lifting my truck, and doing a little more offroading than i do now. i would also like to get OD onto my truck somehow, so i can get better mpg as a daily driver. i would also like to restore certain things, like the wood bed floor and the dash cluster, and add a stock style tach instead of an aftermarket, and basically straighten out the body and paint it, so it looks a little more agreeable than now, even though it seems im the only one that doesnt mind it.

I appreciate all of them but restored is what I prefer. My
truck has been an ongoing restoration project for the
23 years I have owned it. I have painted it four times and
restored it once. It is ready for paint and some body work
again. I am looking foward to it. It has taught me a
lot. There are a lot of memories there. Mostly good memories.

well tuff one to poll,

I am keeping the body original the best I can, I want to drop it, and instal cust upostery. the Engine has been trweeked and few little mods here and there in the Engine compartment.

I can say i am restoring to look as good as it can and make it sound Purdy too

Not much of a 4x4 man here. I kind of go both ways with vehicles. My 40 Chevy truck is all stock in appearance. It would be way too expensive to restore it to original, maybe impossible. However, my 67 is going under the knife and getting an air bagged suspension, custom paint, custom interior, big wheels and a very large rat motor under the hood. It just depends for me how I want the car/ truck to look like. Either way is fine by me.

I'm not a diehard 67-72 truck fan. My friend had a pretty stock '68 short step that I fell in love with. It is now mine--has been for about 4 years. I like the looks of the short steps. I also want to be able to drive my truck comfortably everyday. That's why I decided to modernize the truck. The sheetmetal will stay pretty much the same (except for tailgate/lights and contemplating tilt fiberglass front end). I've already installed the Fatman Fabrication frontend (tubular/polished Mustang II with coilovers and rack steering) and I just got a brand new Explorer rear end (3.73 traction lock, 31 spline, disc brakes). And I've got a LS1/T56 out of a '98 Camaro (plan on going with a all bore 6.0 block for about 38x or39x ci). It ought to handle real well and even with 500+ rear wheel horsepower, 20+ mpg will be attainable. I know a lot of the "purists" may look down at my modifications especially the F*rd parts, but I'm a Hot Rodder at heart. I couldn't leave any vehicle I'd own alone.

It doesn't matter to me what or how you build your rig.... As long as it's tasteful.

I have had this old girl for about 18 years, Never have had her painted, I have rebuilt her from the ground up once all ready and on the second time around. This time she's lowered, and I am going to shave the door handles and mirrors, A roll pan rear, and probably one in front also. I am also contemplating a 2" chop, We'll see and time will tell.

I don't think I have ever owned anything that stayed stock. Most are not radical, but minor tweaks here and there to put in my personality.

I don't like 4X4s much, but I've only worked construction for a year or so.

I do like four wheel drives. The one I have that is two wheel drive, I look at as "lesser". I don't believe in chopping, lifting, slamming (slight lowering for stance on two wheel drive is OK), filling, smoothing, cutting the dash (unless it's done VERY tastefully), putting on a hood scoop, putting on a bird-catcher, mudflaps, etc... But that's for me. You can do whatever you want to your vehicle.

I can appreciate quality work though. I see some vehicles that people have done things that I would never do (slamming, bags, smoothing, etc...) that I think look very nice, but I wouldn't do it to mine.

I like the "Rodstoration" practice, where it's done to look stock, but has some safety/performance mods.

You should have another category there. "The best of yesterday and today." I want my bodylines, color, interior and what not to be off the floor quality, but I want suspension, wheels, drivetrain, lights, etc to be 2003 spec stuff. Afterall, these are the most beautiful trucks ever built, why not take the lines and make the rest better? I may not be in the minority with this point of view.

on my 72 4X4, I would say it is a 4x4, Restored, Modified, truck. I have a long way to go, but so far the frame is stock. The axles are a dana 60 front and a 14 bolt GM in the rear, not stock to this truck. Also the new suspention 4", the only thing that is going to be really stock is the cab and interior everything exept the gauges, going with auto meter phantom. I would have to say that mine is a model that I can do what ever I want with..

I voted for 4X4 because that's what I like the best though I appreciate all old Chevy's no matter what. I have always liked the body style and think that no truck (even new) comes close.

I say light customizing...nothing drastic. Looking some what stock, but some things can be chainged out to make life easier, or more fun.
