70 Wiring ????

My 70 stepper should come home soon from rust repair and I plan on replacing the complete wiring harness with American Auto Wire Kit , which kit should I buy ? It will have LS drivetrain but I have a stand alons harness for that .

I would buy the best one you can afford. Buy the one for your model if they offer it. Get one with extra terminals for add ons as well.

I'm rebuilding a 68 step now myself and using the original wiring but adding relays to the main amp user's to make it more user friendly. It will save the harness and take the main amp loads off of it. Hopefully last another 50 years are so.

With the exception of the dash and main fuse board, I have rewired my entire '70 with AAW. Nothing to it. I plan on doing the dash over the winter while my stock AM radio is out being converted. You may want to check out their "Classic Update series which uses the newer style fuses and has additional space for accessories. I when back to stock.

Stock would probably be fine for mine , wont ave a Radio in it , will use a Blue Tooth speaker on the dash wit my phone for tunes .

Can't go wrong with AAW, they have great products. I've used the Classic Update series. I've also used a Painless harness with great success as well. Both are great kits and not very difficult. If you want to keep it stock, they have a direct fit. M&H also makes top notch stock wiring harnesses as well.

Go with the Classic Update kit. I am using it on my LS-swapped 68 and it works great. That kit includes extra accessory circuits which you can use for a multitude of things. I powered my LS harness, power seats, brake switch, and check engine/brake warning lights with the extra circuits. I know the aftermarket LS harnesses come with their own fuse blocks and relays, you can power those fuses and relays through AAW circuits or you can eliminate them entirely to clean things up a little bit. If you really want to go the extra mile, you can use the several empty slots in the AAW firewall bulkhead for circuits from the engine bay to keep things clean.

For instance, I reworked my LS harness myself and merged a bunch of switched power wires and ended up with like 4 wires that had to get through the firewall to be connected to an AAW accessory circuit. I could have used the empty slots in the bulkhead for this and eliminated an extra hole in the firewall. I have my PCM mounted inside the cab which eliminates a lot of wires that would otherwise have to go through the firewall.

I am just finishing up a complete rewire on 1970 C10. I went with the American Auto Wire Classic Update Kit. I am very impressed with the quality and ease of installation. Great Instructions, and tech support if needed. Do yourself a giant favor and buy the appropriate AAW Crimping tools. Once you figure out how to use them, they make the work a breeze. I realize they are a bit spendy, but they are worth every single penny!

I used the 19 Circuit Builder Harness 51006 from AAW. I had the hole in the firewall filled to run the custom box. If you didn't smooth the firewall, go with the classic update kit, 510089.
I also have an LSx swap with Dakota Digital gauges and have the BIM module to talk to the ECM so I don't have swap sensors on the engine. I'm working out little details now. Check out the link in my signature to see what I have done so far. I went a little more custom with connectors...
