Why the gold paint under the red?

Is that to make it look brighter?

the red is a candy, you put the lighter brighter base colour down then the candy over the top..

I like when candy fades and the base starts showing on old work.I had candy tangerine laquer (gold base) on a`55 Hydra-Glide that looked like a custom fade job,peach with richer tangerine the farther down the side.

How do you like those headlights? are they of good build quality and how good do the signals work? Also where did ya get them....
