Mll power steering

I'm thinking of fitting power steering to my 49 with sbc350, I have an original mustangll clip. Could you guys help me with a list of what parts I need & suppliers of a rack, (I'm not sure if a T-bird one will fit!) as I'll need to get quotes to ship to the uk. Many thanks

My m2 front end uses a 1985 tbird power rack... You will need to use the shim kit (borgeson 899001) in the power steering pump to take the pressure down so the rack does not blow out the seals. Mine is in a 1952 gmc truck frame so not sure how wide your frame is

you need to pick out a rack with the correct spacing for the inner tie rod ends, they need to line up with the lower control arm pivot points or you can end up with terrible bump steer because the tie rods are not moving on the same axis as the control arms are. google it for more info. it depends on the width of the control arm pivots, which can depend on the width of the frame they are attached to.

sorry, I missed the prt where you alraedy have a rack and just want to upgrade to power. is it right or left hand drive? maybe just check one of the mII suppliers and see what will fit. do you know who built the front end originally?

I would go for the Speedway rack. You can't tell if the other is 2.5 or 3 turns, and you could also get a new u joint from Speedway since the output shaft on the power racks are different than the manual.

Also a good source for a low flow pump or flow valve. Either way you will need to decrease the flow from the pump.

That's a remanufactured OE Ford rack it will be 16",,,, some of the of the aftermarket cross member builders used a 15,1/2" which can also be used with a $20.00 set of offset bushing's

What about a non power quick rack? I've been looking on mustangll forums & a lot of them are removing power racks for manual. I know they are lighter vehicles so that's why they are doing it. Quick racks were mentioned a few times

For my scenario ive got a 55.2 with a mustang front

I had a manual rack for 9 years. It drove great down the road but it was a pain in parking lots. If you have big wheels or a small steering wheel manual can be difficult.

I had a "manual" rack on mine before I fixed/replaced the power rack. With the weight of the truck, I would recommend a power unit. Wrestling the thing around without it is pretty tough.

I'm thinking it's what caused my Burstitis in my right elbow, 5weeks now still not 100%. Power rack on its way

For what its worth the shims in the Borgeson kit are .020 it takes three for mine.

Hmmm interesting

The truck wont be used as a daily driver, more of a weekend cruiser down the coast and to shows etc

But if their absolutely shocking then maybe I should consider a power rack

Lot of good advice here...one thing I would say is get the flow valve and not the shim kit... $20 more but less headaches. Speedway motor
