When I went to hearing doc he told me I have trouble hearing women due to high octave hearing loss, my wife thought it was funny too.

Much more common in men is the deafness that matches the wife's speaking range. Once the pitch and volume go up enough, then they hear it.

With many years of experience my selective hearing works just fine, even when sitting right next to my wife.

OMGosh I might have that! I remember very little of what my GF says.
Our problem is her accent is so heavy I understand very little. I just say "OK" a lot until she notices and then yells into the phone. Clearly we are "marriage material." |

The key difference here is hearing what is said or listening to what is said. Find one that will listen and that is truly rare.
