1963 chevrolet suburban carryall - pics and a few questions

Thanks for the excellent forum. Been learning alot as I have been lurking here for a little while now. Good news is I finally got a hold of a 63 chevy suburban.

Needs some rust repair, along with lots of other misc stuff. As a start is mostly pretty complete (minus middle and rubber front mats), runs and drives.

The basics on the 'burb:

1963 suburban carryall
custom comfort option
originally cameo white
1973 4 bolt main motor from a k series scottdale
headers, hei,
Added after purchase edelbrock performer carb/manifold. mark VIII fan with hollister road 2 speed relay. new plug wires, air cleaner, fuel pump.
borg warner super t-10 4-speed
later model 6 lug rims w rally rims and baby moons.
air shocks in rear.

Attached a few photos.

I got a few questions so will be posting them shortly.
If you have any questions for me, please ask away.

Re: 1963 chevrolet suburban carryall - pics and a few questions

Attached a pic of the engine compartment, pre electric fan. (1st post only allowed me 5 photos.)

Ok I got a few questions.

1st thing I am working on is replacing the door weatherstripping and door felts, wing window rubber etc. Mine are completely shot.

Picked up the door weatherstripping, vent window rubber, and 8 piece deluxe door kit from gmcpauls. (thanks for the suggestions in the threads)

8 piece kit is precision brand. Looking at the parts. Took apart the pieces and thinking things through. I have been using this thread for tips on the job. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=351471 Thanks Alan's Classic!

Makes me wonder???

Do I need to cut the division bar w felt into 2 pieces. One piece for the division bar and one piece for the glass run channel?

If so, what works well for cutting? There is a metal backing on the felt/fabric material.

There is a piece of a felt with adhesive backing. Precision Part # GRP 1112 55 (see attached photo)
When I search google it is listed as a glass run channel. This makes me think it goes into the top portion of the door, Does the adhesive piece go behind the felt in the top of the door? If not what are the steps to install?

For the record, my doors have the metal frames around the glass.
Any insight links or tips are appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome and congrats, that is a nice, complete Burb you got there! Looks like you have all the window slider locks and I love those 3 red seats.

Thanks! Appreciate you stopping by and giving me a welcome.

You reminded of another thing I do need and also I forgot to mention have 3 out of the 4 window locks. :-(. So going to need to pick another one up.

2 rear seats are in pretty sad shape, but is nice to see the original upholstery. Would really love to get em redone like the original.

Ok found out where the adhesive piece goes. Wanted to share in case this comes up in a search.
The wording of "glass run channel" via precision was throwing me off.
This piece (Precision Part # GRP 1112 55) adheres to the division bar.

Welcome to the forum

That's a decent looking Burb. I don't think I have ever seen pics of a Burb with the Custom Comfort seats.

Thank you. Runs pretty decent, still could use some tinkering on the carb and timing. Ideally will get a timing tape and air/fuel meter to really get it dialed in.

MY favorite as well. Old looks with the start of the modern ifs. I would have settled for a 64-66. But really wanted the 63, out of the 60-66. So excited for that. Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks, When hunting for suburbans the seats I was determined to get one with seats. I am lucky times 3.

The front seat has been redone w a fawn cover. Looks similar to ones I have seen in 64-66. Hopefully can get all 3 seats original style.

Thanks for the kind welcome. My favorite year as well.

No on the right armrest.
Do have the chrome cigarette lighter and right sunshade. Got the custom cab info going off the codes.. Unless I looked em up incorrectly.
Previous owner added custom option steering wheel/grille.

Just picked up a bunch more sheet metal. Was a bunch of bondo slapped over rust and also used to fill up holes.... Just got the turn signals working and added a mirror extension.. Now I can see out of the side view mirror.

Got the vent windows and divider bars sanded. Need to weld a new nut to the divider bar that attaches to the door. Then can paint and re-do the wing window rubber. Guess I will need to start up a build thread.

Fwiw, Also attached a pic of my other project. A '50 Chevy Fleetline Deluxe. Crate motor, 200r4, fatman ifs, smoothed firewall, all new wiring and brakes. lots of work done lots more to do. Majors ones are remaining bodywork, paint and interior.

Re: 1963 chevrolet suburban carryall - pics and a few questions

Welcome, and thanks for showing a great looking Burb.
The larger trucks usually got the steel trim around the door glass, perhaps the doors were replaced.
Your seat frames are painted red compared to the fawn by the artist rendering below. Steering wheel should be white.
Easy Eye windshield, aka tinted green?
Thank you for posting your Trim code, interesting to see RR after the RPOZ62
Lot`s of good stuff to see on this truck.
The style of vinyl on the seats was Haircell in 63.

Paint 526A Cameo white as you mentioned.

Hello thanks for stopping by and sharing.
Good information on the door glass. I ordered the felt kit for doors with frames... and of course a majority of glass is frameless. I will keep hunting for passenger glass with frame.
I have been looking for the fawn paint and having crappy luck. Local jobbers cant get anything off paint codes. tried dupont/mason ppg/ditzler so far.
appreciate all the paint code info
the windshield is clear, was replaced by a po.
haircell! gotcha. what is the I pattern called? not houndstooth

I want to go with a two tone paint job, but may just go all white to make things easier on me...
