I have a good custom exhaust shop that i'm going to use to bend up some stainless. You should make a roadtrip with a trailer! Or a lot of guys buy prebent pieces off of ebay and weld them up themselves, pretty cheap to do.

After I read the samll print that LMC exhaust kits do not fit Rockwell tranfer trucks I need to go to plan B. I figure I can get some drop pipes off a junk yard truck with just enough to get a set of mufflers on it and drive it to a midas that have welded up a lot of exhaust systems on my camaro's. I have always used Gardner exhausts that fit perfect. Mike, if exhaust systems aren't plug and play I leave them to more the more skilled.

Just spent 3 hours trying to get the spindle off the long side of my front axle. I just posted a "help" request because that sucker an't budgin'. I hope there is a trick cause I am out of idea's, chisles, sharpe screw drives and have hit my hand with the hammer too many times to count :-(

Thats allways a great feeling isn't it! just hold off on running it untill you get the exhaust mounted up.. One step at a time..

Oh, i too am also stuck under a car cover to work on my truck, but i have 2 10'X20' butted end to end and lashed together for a little extra room, still sucks working in the dirt tho..

I'd wait until brake lines and ebrake cables are in to hit the muffler shop. Have them bend a 90 degree for each side and clamp a muffler to it for now if you want...

Other guys have bent coat hangar, had the local shop make pieces and pieced them at home.

You don't see many due to it being so darn ugly. I like the idea that its a GMC with the 4 headlights and stepside, both are rare around hear. My daughter calls the truck "Big Ugly" and shes right. I need to get the bed ready for paint and shoot it but that will have to wait until spring. I am waiting on a column from Teeitup and will paint it and the steering wheel. Need to finish the front axle rebuild, get a brake system in, mount the dana 44, replace the 2bl with a 4, get some carpet and install the front clip. We are starting to get a chill here and there in nj so its almost time to focus on my favorite hobby, deer hunting. Had the bow out last weekend so I am ready!!!

Step sides aren't ugly, I like the look of them though I will admit the 66 and earlier fenders are my favorite.

Another mile stone past. The front dana rebuild has been completed. Its funny how it looks so daunting when you first disassembly and afterwards you relize how easy it really is. I almost wish I could rebuild another. I just need to wait till pay day for the tie rods ends to be ready for the swap. Thanks for all those who helped me through this. From the member who explained that there are clips "inside" the axle ujoints to those who helped me get the correct spindle/axle seals. Now time to get the brake system install going. I'll get the old dana out and get the new brake lines in while I have room to work. I know, my build sequnce is a little ass backwards. I have to start thinking about the PS install. I have the pump in but need to plan the adapter install and purchase from CaptainFab.

Out with the old!

Feels like I got a lot done in the last week. Installed the 72 1/2 ton dana, connected the front drv shaft. Was so happy the the orignal fit. Installed the column and steering wheel and the new brake booster and master. Waiting on my braking lines from intube. What a nightmare that has been. Ready to start drilling to mount the PS adapter plate. . Getting close!

Didn't notice the reverse flex of the leafs until now. Might have to go with a new suspension in the spring.

First time out of the tent since summer!

reverse flex (sag) is normal in nearly all chevy 1/2tons... You can always add-a-leaf or install a zero rate leaf to gain an inch of clearance later.... my truck had the HD spring option with three leafs in the front.

Thanks Mike, where's the best place for the zero rate leaf? I remember you bought new thicker shackel mounts (gold if I remember your thread). Where did you get them. My drv side has a little twist and I had to pry over the leaf to get it to drop in the alignment hole.

I have a set of longer shackles from diy4x.com if you want to buy them. I bought mine from ORD... diy4x or ORD have zero-rate shackles as well... They raise the front without changing the ride. Add-a-leafs will stiffen the ride.

Another productive weekend between sitting in my tree stand ,archery season :-), and making progress on the truck before the deep freeze sets in. I now have power steering (thanks CaptainFab) and fully functional power disk brakes. Need to get the lines more lined up and install some brake clips from sharpie. I was amazed that I only had 1 leaky line junction with all those brass junctions. Next is to install the exhaust. I went with the LMC kit even though they state "Doesn't fit trucks with Rockwell's". I'll teak some of the bends to make it fit. Need to find an inexpense 4bl and manifold as the funds for this build are getting low.

Sweet build! One of my fav's.

As to the manifold, I'll have to second msgross; the Summit branded manifolds are hard to beat for the price. I've purchased two of them so far; one for my K5 and one for a SBC that I have yet to install in anything. Topped both with Edelbrock 600cfm carbs and ordered them with the install "kit" Felpro gaskets and intake bolt kit. Great package for the $ IMHO.

Yea my stock leaves had the reverse arch in them when i replaced them with my lift kit, have no idea if the reverse is from sagging or if designed that way.. The truck is looking great!

Thanks guys, still missing a lot of small parts but I hope to get the hood on today and that it aligns properly with the fenders. I am rushing against the weather as I need to take down the tent before the snows come. Picking up a set of RS5000 shocks and my modified drive shaft this week. It might be ready for a road test by next weekend.
