Reassembling the truck, first snag...

It's a 67, with the 250 motor. I want to put a th350 in it but standard SBC stuff isn't working. As I'm lining the trans up, the tq converter hits the crank before the bolts are even close. Flex plate is oriented properly, I confirmed that. Is there a special torque converter and/or flexplate out there to enable this conversion?

I'm not sure of how that combo matches up as compared to a SBC TH350 combo. It sounds to me like the convertor isn't properly seated on the TH350 shaft. I haven't done it for a while nor have I watched these 2 videos recently, but as I recall at least one describes the process.

My thoughts exactly on the convertor, not all the way in pump.

Re: Reassembling the truck, first snag...

Thanks guys. I think the converter is fully seated. I am installing it to the motor from under the truck and I think the alignment might be off, causing the center of the converter to hit the crank. It's tough to see. I'll se if I can play with it more tomorrow.

Are you able to start the bell housing bolts into the block? From what i read you can bolt up a number of trannys to those inline 6 engines. Im with the guys before me, sounds like your torque converter aint seated properly. Theres a diagram you can view on Google that tells you how to measure if your torque converter is seated properly.

If the torque converter is seated all the way back, you should not be able to put your fingers between the torque converter and the body of the trans. If you can, then it is not seated properly. Without pics, I am betting this is the situation.

Re: Reassembling the truck, first snag...

I just fought this battle last week with a 90 model 350/700r. Found out it was definitely alignment issues. I fought for an hour or so until I got smart and put a torpedo level on the oil pan of the eng and matched it on the
trans jack. Side to side and back to front. Slid on like greased butter once I got the dowels aligned.
