Dan, I used 2 drivers sides because the passenger side has a cutout for the spare tire well.

Handfull 54 is correct, the bolts want show because they are covered by the fender.

Re: My long term 57 project

Well got it done! I'll do my best to give you guys a step by step update!

Pic 1: This is what I started with.

Pic 2: Centered it over the rear end and it lined up with an original hole towards the front in the bedside angle strip!

Pic 3: Had to move the rear crossmember back approx 2 3/4in and roughed in the cuts to the angle strip.

Pic 4: Cut line for additional clearance.

Re: My long term 57 project

Pic 1: Had to space the mounting holes in the bedside so they didn't align with the 3 stamped detail lines. You can also see the cross in place and the bed board trimmed to match the wheel tub contour,

Pic 2: Mounting holes transferred to tub flange. Notice new square hole in the flange that bolts to the bedwood and cross sill. If I had made the tubs 1in narrower i could have used an original hole!

Pic 3: The majority of the underside of my truck is brushed on rustoleum Regal Red.

Pic 4: Pax side in place. Added additional board under the floor so I can fasten the bed boards from below.

Pic 5: Drivers side.

Thanks Kim!

Pic 1: Shot from underside. To the right you can see the supporting board running from side to side with screws going up into the bed boards. There is also another one to the rear that you can't see here. All of the wood is pressure treated yellow pine.

Pic 2: This shows the bolts through the bedsides to the tub flange.

Pic 3: All boards in place.

Pic 4: Close up of the tub fitment to the angle strip on drivers side.

Pic 5: Pax side.

Re: My long term 57 project

Might stain them a flat red or gray? Also thinking of covering them with some old cedar planks I've been holding onto for years.

Re: My long term 57 project

JJ,
Your work looks fantastic as usual. I THINK I've read you're considering yellow as your ultimate color(?). Your rims are orange but you painted you're underneath bodywork red...what's your color plans (if you have one)?

Any particular reason you're not reinstalling putting metal bed strips?

I THINK I saw on the Tanks, Inc site you sent me to, a sort of stainless recess for the filler pipe. Will you be using that or just leaving it as-is?

Yep, when I first bought the truck my plans were for it to be yellow. But I've really started to like the metallic blues that are on many of todays cars. If I ever do paint it blue I will change the rims, but will probably leave it red on the bottom!

I'll put the metal strips in when I put nice wood in it after paint. And yes I do have the stainless trim piece from Tanks, need to find it, might put it in place.

Re: My long term 57 project

Thanks for the info JJ.

Funny, I'm not normally a guy that likes blue EXCEPT every once in a while I see a blue I like and then I REALLY like it. There are a lot of reds and oranges I like and I've intended to someday paint mine one of those....but there are so many red & orange trucks like these. I suppose because they look great in those colors.

I put a green primer on mine just so it would'nt be the standard light/dark gray, or red oxide. But now it's kind of grown on me, so who knows.

I'd really like to see how that stainelss bowl or dish looks once installed.

Re: My long term 57 project

When you get to looking at blue paint be sure to check out House of Color Strato Blue. I really like their paint and it was much cheaper than a Dupont or custom mixed paint. I was really surprised about that.

Thanks for the advice, but I think it'll be quite a while before I bite that bullet!
