If you do look for one make sure it has wheels on the front. Mine does not and you have to be careful that it does not get too low and gouge into the ground. The 96" wide model had front wheels but the 60'' like I have did not.

Re: How many of you guys have a skid loader

I ran a New Holland skid steer at a sawmill back in the mid-1970s. It was too light for most lumber forklift duties (they had a conventional r/t forklift for that) and I used it mostly for sorting logs cut to length out of truck/trailer length loads.

It didn't have much lift height either but I got so that I could throw logs off the tip of the forks, so that I could stack the logs higher than the forks could reach. I could scoot it sideways to pick up several short logs and keep the ends just about even.

We sometimes used it to stack slabs on while sawing, but I would have to go empty it about every half hour because it couldn't hold that much.

It had an air cooled Wisconsin V-4 which is about the most cussed engine ever invented. At least it was electric start.

I can't see that a skid steer of any flavor would be much use on my place. They are generally too low ground clearance to use in the woods and I'm not sure they would be any good for grading roads or for plowing snow once it got deep enough to really need to do it. Might work great with a snowblower, however.

Re: How many of you guys have a skid loader

my dad had a early '90's 753 bobcat. was a handy machine on his hobby farm, only thing i hated was plowing the driveways with it. snow would come right over the bucket and into your lap...used to tie a piece of plywood on the front to deflect it. we did hit it's limitations many times so he sold it and bought a Hitachi EX 60 excavator

In 2016 my wife and I rode down to West Mineral Ks. to check out Big Brutus the second largest electric shovel. That thing is huge. I’ve lost all the photos except one.
Me in the operators seat.
I must’ve turned that shovel on it’s side.

The Preparator Yard Rake is one of the attachments we use most. WE had to do this work with yard rakes and wheelbarrows when I was young.

Re: How many of you guys have a skid loader

I don’t own one, but do have the privilege of using one. My good friend Darrell has a CAT 262. We trade tools quite often, sometimes for months. I have a 40 hp tractor with brush dog, box blade and post hole digger that he is welcome to use. Sometimes we will go in 50/50 on equipment. We went in on a 20 ton log splitter a few years ago. He needs it for smoking large quantities of meat, and I need it for firewood. It’s really a great way to go if you’re like minded friends, and take care of the equipment. We get to use more tools this way at a reduced cost.

We had a great deal going for several years. Our neighbors had a bunch of animals (horses, cows, fowl, dogs and cats) but they also like to travel a lot so we traded taking care of their place when they were gone for using his 4wd Kubota tractor/loader and occasionally taking care of our animals. But then they sold their place, got rid of their livestock, and moved to town.

In the meantime I had just let my little old Case tractor sit so now it is a fairly big deal to get it up and going again. It needs a new gas tank and the wheels swapped out (I have extra wheels but the tires on those are too big) plus whatever else might have gone wrong just sitting. It doesn't run very good in the cold weather anyway with the old updraft carb

Bobcat 873 turbo for me. We've had it since new. Used mostly for moving pallets of material around at our greenhouse. Have a bucket for it too, as well as a 24" and 36" auger. Been thinking about adding a box blade to work on keeping the potholes out of our driveway.

We got this one in this morning.

Nice other Larry. I rented a T595 trac loader Sunday to use before the Superbowl and finished in time for kickoff. I wish I had it for longer(forever). Come in handy for sure.

Yeah, I saw the cut you made for that container. These machines are handy for sure.

BTW, if that river starts freezing up near you, let us know so we can prepare for the water shortage.

There is not much flowing right now but not because of the frozen river just not much moisture since some time in late October.
