Suburban tail lenses

Just a heads up that newly made lenses are now available. Don't do what I did and hit the Buy it Now button thinking you found the last NOS set on earth. The darn things are repops! (good ones though) I think I overpaid by a quite bit too. Oh well.

Re: Suburban tail lenses

I'm sure a number of sellers have them as they are GM Restoration Parts authorized repros. The vague wording of the particular Ebay listing and high quality fooled me into thinking they were NOS. I can imagine a few other buyers are going to get suckered as well.

Re: Suburban tail lenses

I'll take a high quality repop over brittle 50 year old plastic. I have a set of repops and they are very good. I also have a set of used and they are okay.
I also have the originals that have a blue dot inserted.

Unless you are going for concourse restoration, the repops are better than the old brittle ones any day. 2cents, keep the change.

Re: Suburban tail lenses

took a little to find them. for some reason my normal search terms "1960 suburban tail light lens" would not pull them up.

Not really. If you want NOS then I'd say thats not too bad. If you dont care about NOS, then these new ones are $46 a pair.

Re: Suburban tail lenses

Talked to the truck shop today, they sold 40 sets in no time, what's the opinion of fit and finish ? Past experience with other repop lenses is the light does not shine through exactly the same ? Just curious what you think.

Re: Suburban tail lenses

Got my new Counterpart/GM Restoration part repops and compared them to an NOS lens. First, I have to say these are some clean lenses. I mean really super clean. In fact, they are noticeably cleaner and glossier than the NOS lens. This may not be a good thing however, depending upon what they look like when in use, especially at night.
You can see in the pics the repop lens appears a bit clearer (hence darker) than the NOS one. I suspect the slightly "frosty" original may illuminate more evenly after dark.
Other than this one difference, the new lenses are perfect in every detail and look as good or better than the originals.

Oh gosh NO! When I pulled the BIN trigger on these, they were cleverly listed as new lenses with no packaging and no mention of them being repros. Until then, the latest info I had was that NOBODY had ANY in stock, and NOS or used was all one could hope to find. Within minutes of committing to buy I had found others clearly listed as new repros and my happy bubble was burst.
As You might suspect, I am a huge fan of original factory parts and seek those pieces exclusively for my trucks.
I posted pics for those who are simply after a good set of lenses. With that in mind, these repros are very nice quality.

LOL ! Just giving you a hard time Bruce ....I actually think this is one of the better looking reproduction items they make. Jon

Just got my set today from Truck and Car shop. Very impressed. It is probably the first plastic re-pop I have seen that doesn't seem chinzy or cheap. It's about time!
