I need a new windshield...

How much do these usually cost? Does anyone have a good used one? Its cracked over half of the windshield... It goes under and out of the drivers line of sight... It passed inspection. But here on post the Military Police said they could ticket me for a safety violation, saying it's unsafe... ugh. And the glass is kinda junked up and scratched... What about the rubber seal do I need to buy one of those or does that glass company have one of those???

Also what does it cost if I have to get the metal fixed around the windshield if its rusted. The glass guy was worried it could be rusted. See my last post for more details.

I got a new tinted and shaded one installed with new seal for $160 in my driveway about 3 years ago. Make sure you get a good quality one. I had a cheap one on before and it was like a big egg shell and cracked on the first very light contact. I forget what you need to look for,maybe try the search function on here.

350 installed.....I surely hope people are not paying that much....glass 100.00 bucks at swap meets all day.........windshield moldings 45-50.......install it your self.....They are easy

It's so easy, the local glass shop broke the 1st windshield they tried to install in my '67

just take your time installing it yourself, and use new mouldings,, and dont force it... I've done a few windshields and actually broke one installing it.. I used soapy water as well to help guide it in...

$200 even around here for one with new rubber for the chrome trim. Thats for "come to you" installed.

now im being told this by my glass guy at my work (work at a dealership) he said that the ones with chrome trim are a PITA. says its hard to keep the trim from popping out. and hes been workin on glass since before these trucks were made

Had a new windshield installed about a month ago. Was about $220 glass, rubber, labor. They came and did it at my work. Now driving at night is much nicer!

I just bought a new tinted/shaded windshield, $80 cash & carry from a glass shop about 30 miles form me... Let's see, if you figure in gas for the White Truck to go and get it that would be about $200 total.....

I install all of my own. A local guy said he was quoted $200 installed a while back.

Be sure and watch what windshield you are buying. Anything other than the PPG, or LOF factory replacement glass will likely be bubbled. If you look at it and it isn't flat across the front your wipers will not touch the glass all the way. Then you will think that your wipers are bad. Remember cheaper sometimes comes at a cost. WES

The glass guy came out to day to do my windshield. He said that he will not do it because the cab is a little rusty around the windshield also one small hole on the bottom of the A-pillar. Then when he pulled the seal down there was some rust on the seal. He said the back side of the metal looked good. But you never know when you pull the seal if the rest of the metal will be rusted and if its bad he can't put the windshield. So he said that we have to do at a body shop. That way if it is bad then they can fix it. HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST TO GET THE METAL FIXED IF ITS RUSTED. That is my question please help me!!! And let me know please THX guys!

I know this is a little vague but so is my memory...I saw on one of those truck shows (spike TV, or SPEED) where they installed a new windshield and they made it look VERY easy. put a rope in the outer channel of the seal then layed the windshield into place, then pulled the rope out from inside the truck, thus pulling the seal with it. Sounds easy enough!

They did that on the new "Trucks" (after Stacy David left). They did the front and rear in the '6X (forgot what year) truck where they made teh long bed to short bed. Front and rear were opposite procedure, one was glass first then use string to get seal into opening, the other was seal first, then glass in to opening. I think, was something like that. Mainly, did not do front and rear glass teh same. But seemed simple, just take your time.

First thing you need to do is find out exactly how bad this rust is.

From what the guy said there could be no problem at all or cancer waiting for you under the seal. So if you need a new windshield any way you need to expose the area to see what you have.

Pictures of the exposed area in question would help us help you know what you are getting into? That area is a hard one to fix and fix right if you don't have the skills required. The best way to find out how much it will cost is to find out how far the cancer has spread and get some quotes form as many repratable auto body shops you can find. If you can post some pictures that show the extent of the rust we may be able to help you get a rough idea of how much it will cost. But the first thing you need to do is find out what if any problem exists.

Yea I was kind of just wanting to know how much this kind of work would cost. Because the windsheild guy said he wont pull it without it being on an autobody shop lot. I was wondering how much it might cost if I find out it is bad. Rough estimates so I can save money so that if I do have to get the work done. I dont think it is that bad...

It could be $100 or it could be $1000. I know that is not what you want to hear but with out knowing how much and what areas need to be fix or who is doing the work it is not an area that can be easily estimated. There are no after market replacement parts for this area like most of the other body panels on these trucks so they would need to be built from scratch. I wish I could give you an estimate but that is not possible with out having a rough idea of the problem area. Look under your dash, inside your cowl and try to see if you can see any rust problems. If it is not your daily driver I would pull out the window and seal on your own it is not that hard. Even replacing the windshield is not that hard if you have a friend and use the right technique. If you decide to do it your self let us know and we can help walk you through the process and once you get the window out post some pictures so we can help you with your rust problem if you even have one. Sorry I can't be more help.
