help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

Okay so I recently picked up a "1972" c20... well the title atleast says so. The truck has a 67 small window cab, but later front end. It also has 8lug axles. But it has drums on all 4 corners. The vin decoded comes to be a v8 3/4 ton built in baltimore, But the motor is a 6cyl with a 4speed granny trans.

I would think a 72 would have discs up front? I want to convert to discs and power steering but have no idea what year chassis I have or how to find out haha.

Spid is mostly gone in the 67? cab so thats no help.

first cruise around town.. the ol lady loves the truck.

67 cab, 69/70 grille, most likely a 3/4 ton but I suppose it could be a 1 ton.

Since 67's didn't have any side marker lights it appears that the cab and possibly the undercarriage (Since it doesn't have front discs) are from a 67 while the rest is from a later truck. More pictures could help with identifying everything.

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

You absolutely have a cobbled together truck.

You mention "72" did the title say 72?

Look on the driver side top of the frame right behind the steering box for a Vin Number, if there is one does it match the title of the 72? or 69?

If no number its probably the 67 frame, see if there is an indent on the side of the frame where the steering box is bolted, most all 67's did not have this, a few did, but 68 on had the indent.

If the frame has a Vin but not the 72 then it could be the 69 ( I think only the 67 didn't stamp a Vin on the frame)

I don't think the 69 had front disks ether, 72 and 71 did.

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

67 cab and who knows what else the front grille is 69 70 as said so if you want disk brakes all the same stuff applies that you have read about. the 71-2 stuff is direct fit the 73-87 only small mods to use it.
All the parts mixing aside you still can have a decent and very fun truck just as you had hoped. Jim

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

What you have is a good lookin' woman . It's a C/20, definitely not a C/30. No 127" WB C/30s. I figure either it's a '67 with 69-72 bed or a 69-72 with a '67 cab. It has 69-72 fenders and hood (look for filled bowtie mount holes to see if it's 69/70). The grille looks like '69 and the front bumper is 67-70. If it's a '67, they put the emblems on the later fenders. If it's a 69-72 they took the emblems from the cab donor truck. Or, I have no idea?

Are the frame numbers stamped into the frame or are they on a tag attached to the frame?

Oh, look at the doors too, is there a screw by the wing window? That would indicate 72 only doors. The door panels are different as well pending year. I believe the wing window latch on the 67 was a one off latch.

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

wow thanks for the replies. Yeah its been on clist for awhile. I usually search for the c20s because I think people stay away from em to hotrod. I wound up getting it for around 700 if I subtract the money I would have spent on the brand new tires it has on it cause I am going to use them on my f150.

I will look for the vin stamp and the indent in the morning. The vin on the spid in the cab is faded and unreadable and half the sticker is gone from water damage or something.

The truck is titled as a 72 at least that's the tittle I have for it. first letters are CC.

I kinda like the small window 67 cab cause its different and fairly rare, and the 69 grille has been my fave c10 front end. I kinda wish it was a short bed and might bob the frame if I can find a clean 6' bed down the line.

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

I wasn't the one asking for the picture, but thanks. Even better!! Any sisters?

Someone define cobbled. I don't see it. I just see mixed years. I've seen the same thing on trucks you all drool over and say is well worth the $25k asking price. If mixing years is cobbling, than my '67 (looking) GMC is another one...'71 Chevy frame from FL, '72 Chevy cab from CA, '67 GMC grille/core support from NE, '67 GMC fenders from KS, '67 GMC doors from CA, one '67 bedside from CA, one 68-72 (I'll fill marker) bedside from TX. 67/68 GMC tailgate from OR. woodfloor supports and wheel houses from AZ, and front panel from CA. Oh, and louvered 67/68 hood from NH. The M22 is '65 Pontiac A-body, steering wheel is '67 Impala that will have a 67/68 GMC horn button, a Camaro tach, and 327 from a '68 Chevy C/20. The dual snorkle air cleaner and valve covers are 1st gen. Z/28. I can make something out of anything, but I don't know how to cobble

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

silent bob? .. lol.. I would be with evey one on this and look at the door jam vin and frame vin right under the cab top rail and also located by gear box steering.. I would be guessing by its a older model frame it being drums around but its all option I believe.. if its manual steering I would shoot its a 67 because of the frame dimple.. the cab would have a vent on the door jame 71+ ... the 67 chevy have frame vin stamps on the frame. I own one .. I believe the gmc do not.. since I do not own a gmc I can't verify.. but I also own piece up trucks.. good luck..

One true thing is I hope you don't have the 1967 frame. One reason 1947-67 had no power steering on the frame Now on the Sub frame they did if you call power assist its a older version on rackion pinion. Not to fond of the addone plates they make for the 1963-67.to me it dose not work as good as the 1968 power steering box

It takes 15 minutes to heat and beat the frame horn to accept a PS box.

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

looks too me like you got a decent looking truck to start with and take it where ya want without worrying about origanality.

a 67 frame is easy to spot as the top of the frame rails around the engine are wider than any other year but its tough to know or see without seeing the two next to each other.

here in pa. as long as you got a title really nothing else matters as long as nothing causes attention to your mixture.
90% of these trucks are mutts 45-50 yrs later anyway and its still all gm.

good find on the girl, doggie and truck

Re: help me figure out what I got please! c10 c20 67 72?

thanks guys, yeah I am not stressing about the tittle at all.. I just registered it historic yesterday. In NJ with a historic reg there is no inspection and renewal is every 3 years and free!
Truck has some cancer that needs addressed, common for these parts unless you're spending 6k+ on one. But its a driver.. a very slow driver.. but a driver haha.
Plan is to bag it and put a 6.0 ls in it. Keep it old school looking for the most part. I dont want to mod the soul out of it.
Ive been longing for a hotrodded c10 69-72 ever since I saw dazed and confused as a teen!
