Turn signal cable

I am in need of a new turn signal cable mine is bent and rusted. I found one at classic industries and ordered it and when it came in it's to short. It says it is for a impala and a 62 truck. Did anyone else have this problem? Does anybody know where to find the right cable?

Re: Turn signal cable

Lost me on this one. What is a turn signal cable? All mine are wires.

Re: Turn signal cable

The cable runs from the turn signal assembly to the switch. I ordered a new one and it's to short. Did anybody on this site ever replace it and where did you buy the correct one? I can use the short one but I will have to remove the colum and re drill the switch mounting holes.

Re: Turn signal cable

Where is the switch mounted that you need a cable to operate it? AND, why don't you relocate it?

I have never seen this either. As far as I can see, my 62' doesn't have this either. Could someone have put an Impala set-up in your truck?

some if not all of the 60/61 and 62s used the cable with the switch down on the column http://img.inkfrog.com/click_enlarge...&aid=306971192 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/60-61-62-Che...1fb8b1&vxp=mtr

Re: Turn signal cable

I have the new Impala cable but it's to short. The truck cable is about 1in longer so the mounting screws are off from the new one. I can relocate but I didn't want to drop the column just for this switch. I can't get my right angle drill to get into the right location. I guess I need to drop it because I am also having a problem with the horn also. There was a member on here that rebuilds columns. Does anybody remember?

Re: Turn signal cable

I don't know about the differences, but someone has drilled new holes in my column in the past from the cable being too short. It was probably from it breaking and instead of replacing they just bent the end and made new holes. I believe that's called ingenuity. haha!

Re: Turn signal cable

Wow I've learned something new as well. I replaced my original 1960 column 20 years ago, but I don't remember it having anything like that.

Re: Turn signal cable

I was a new one on me too. I have had a 63, a 64, and now a 65 and a 66 but no 60 or 61's.

Re: Turn signal cable

Just one of the many reasons these 60-62's are so zany! Look at us over here with our hydraulic clutches, torsion bar suspension, nutty cable operated turn signal and bonus x-member frame rails. We're out of control!

Re: Turn signal cable

I have one I am pretty sure, it is on a column in my shed. I have about 6 auto columns in there and I remember that unusual set up on a couple of my columns... I will look first chance I get and get back with ya

Thanks for checking. Softpatch I was wondering if I could switch it to a 63 or newer set up? It would be easier to deal with than this setup.

Re: Turn signal cable

As far as switching them over..... I know the plug ins are different, I did put an older column in a 65 once. I cut the plug ins off and rewired it, so it can be done.

Re: Turn signal cable

Ok I finally got the turn signal to work. I lowered the column and repositioned and mounted the switch. I cut the cable sleeve and installed the turn signal cable. Now if I can get the horn to work I can get it on the road. Here are some pics.

Re: Turn signal cable

My turn signal cable pulled loose, how does the cable connect to the switch? I see the switch portion that moves but can not see how to connect the cable.

Re: Turn signal cable

Small pin on the switch that the cable end slides over and is held by a clip.

Re: Turn signal cable

I'm guessing my cable has been broken off on the end, it is just a plain straight cable, nothing to hook on to. Looks like I need a new cable if I understand.

Re: Turn signal cable

The lower end doesn't have a loop or anything. It's a straight cable that is grabbed by the switch mechanism using a spring-loaded clip.
