Floor carpet question.

I'm about to start with the interior now. I can't remember when I tore everything out, it was like 2 years ago now. So just to verify the order; after I apply dynamat on the floor, then goes the carpet, seatbelts and finally the bench, correct? Also, do I have to take the gas tank out for the carpet? This is my first build, excuse the noob inquiries.

Thanks!

Sounds right and the tank stays in the truck.

The hardest thing for me is cutting the holes for everything through the carpet.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Floor carpet question.

I saw a suggestion on here to use a soldering iron to burn the holes in the carpet. I tried it and worked really well. Just poke the hot iron up from underneath the truck. Good Luck!

Talking Re: Floor carpet question.

Making the holes isn't the problem. It's making them in the right locations for everything that ha to be mounted.

Great tip! Thanks.

And thank you all for confirming my doubts. Starting on it tomorrow.

This is easy, take bolt that fits in the threaded hole that about 2 inches long. Put them in before you lay down any of the Flooring mat or carpet. As you smooth out the mat you will see where the bolts poke up. Use a knife to cut a small hole to get mat pass the bolt, then do the same with the carpet. Once all flooring is laid down take out bolts and open up holes in carpet and mat for bench seat!

Like I said its easy

Re: Floor carpet question.

Auroch,
How much square footage of product did you use?
I can see you have the door skins lined also.
I'm trying to determine how much to order.
Nice job
Sam

That's easier said than done sir. I haven't said I didn't know how I said it's the hardest part. You cut the carpet 1" off and well it just ant that easy!
For me anyway.

Also be very careful when you screw the bolts in. If you catch a yarn in the threads of the bolt it will wrap around the bolt and pull the row of yarn out all the way across the carpet.

Edit: That only happens with the loop style carpet, not the cut pile.

I got the Dynamat xtreme 36 sq ft bulk pack, it contains 9 large sheets. Highly recommend getting the rubber roller tool. It was enough for the entire floor and firewall as you can see on the pic; ended up with a sheet and a half left over which I used inside the doors. I also got one roll of Dynamat finishing tape just to make it look perfectly even on the edges, not necessary, but looks nice.

You said you have a difficult time locating the holes! That's how you locate the hole with ease

That depends on you, your current setup should be fine. Are you still getting a lot of road noise? I’d say combine the two if you want it to be quieter still. I will say, if you’re running a high end sound system, Dynamat does improve on the acoustics of your cab, not to mention bass control, kills the cab rattle.
