Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Well the flip kit is done. I got 3" more drop over the shackle/hanger setup. The rear looks great, its actually tucking a bit of tire. But with the rubber rake from the tire sizes the front looks goofy because the fender is about 1" or so higher than the tire. So i grabbed the front springs left over from my K5 project an cut 1/2 coil. I think im going to cut another 1/4 coil off before installing them. I started on it today but the front end wear parts are shot so the while I'm there's are gonna get me an I'll just rebuild it all. I have everything still from the K5 project so it's no big deal really just gotta get it done. I think i will pick up a set offset cross shafts for the uppers an do away with some shims hopefully. Not looking forward to bushing replacement an wishing i had done the leaf an shackle bushings while the rear was apart.....

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Finished up the front end tear down today. The upper arms are all apart an I took the lowers to have some plate fitted in an welded in on the bottom side under the bushings. Then I swapped steering wheels. I did order offset upper shafts, one came today, right box but wrong part inside. Hopefully the other one will be right so I'm able to get a little more done while waiting on the replacement. Here's some pics since this is kinda a build thread now...

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Well it looks like I'm talking to myself but I'm almost done.

Lower control arms back together. The bushing replacement really wasn't to bad.

Steering back together

Getting closer

Thought there was a little to much black...

Almost done, one last nut/bolt check, grease everything an tighten the control arm cross shafts an it should be good to go. I'm not real happy about how the cut springs are sitting in the lower control arm though. Looks like they could pop out but they are nice an solid up top.

I finally had to stop cleaning an painting stuff or I might as well have taken it all apart for the frame off. I will go back and paint the calipers later, maybe....

Sure if you can wait while it takes me a month or two to get it done!

I thought I put the pics of the arms in here to but I guess not.

I saw it mentioned in another thread an thought it was a good idea. Should help keep them from getting bent if they happen to hit something since they are the lowest point of the suspension.

thanks, I'm ready to be done. I don't get a lot of time to mess with it because of my work an family schedule.

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Since everyone likes pictures here's some others I hadn't put in here yet for some reason...

Uppers sandblasted, new bushings an offset cross shafts

I masked an painted the steering parts.

I had to clean all this with a wire wheel cause they were just to big/heavy to sneak into work to the sandblaster.

That's all I got for now

Very nice P2 , glad to see your working on this again. I shouldve just listened to you and donw my bushings myself. The machine shop was not worth the extra heartburn, plus they had em for almost 2 weeks

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Done. I pulled the coils because they weren't seated right an went ahead an cut the last 1/4 of a coil off to make it a full coil. I'm glad I did, they seated better an the stance is flipping perfect. The thing rides great, best it has in years. I'm ready to drive the crap outta it now!!!!!

Its looww, but it looks killer IMO!!!

Wow, it really wasn't that hard. I did use the press at work for the uppers, but I did the lowers here at home. Drilled the rubber out then used a hack saw for the outer shell. It came right out. I put the new outer shells in the freezer for a few days before installing an I was able to knock them in with a hammer an a piece of wood. I'm really pleased with the outcome of it all...

New stance looks great, I should have just done it myself but anyway I get to redeem myself and give it another shot on my 1 ton soon.

That is basically the same drop that the truck they came off had.

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Wow it really is isn't frank. Now i just gotta get my paint an body work up to par with yours

I Know i talked earlier in the thread about a slightly taller an wider front tire, but it will no longer be possible i believe. The ones on there fit perfect now.

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

When i seen the pic i remembered the pic of the black truck at the same basic angle. i couldnt get over just how close they are to each other.
i remember how smooth the black truck was with them. That was the smoothest riding setup I have had on a truck. The 18's I had on the buckskin truck were smooth but the 17's were smoother. The truck is looking great. I think it would be amazing with all the trim and a two tone red/maroon exterior. It is a combo that GM released but you rarely see it on a square 73-80.
Keep up the good work. I like the other truck as well. Nice work.

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

holy crap man that thing looks beautiful. sorry if i over looked it, but you just did a flip kit in the rear yea? and shackles? what kinda price range did you put in the front? what was re-used? my long bed is going to need some loving it is currently my daily so i just have to drive her, but i plan on pulling the bed cleaning it up and dropping hte rear then save up a little and pull the front apart and replace everything as im sure it needs it and kinda do what you did.

also i know theyre probably long gone but what did you do with the prostars?

Awesome job. Did you want the rear to give it that rake? It has a killer stance for sure!

Re: Got my Leroy's! (TTII's)

Flip kit only in the rear ( djm-$85), with new kyb gr2 shocks.

The front is western chassis 2.5" spindles an one coil cut off the spring. I don't remember what the spindles cost, i bought them in 1998.

All the front wear parts are new, upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, pitman, idler energy suspension black bushings (about $40), edelbrock solid tie rod adjusters (5252-$35 iirc), an also kyb gr2 shocks (about $100 for the set f and r)

All the moog stuff will run you about $350-400 depending on where you buy it. Another $75 for the fab work on the lower arms an about $25 worth of paint.

I Think that's everything, the old wheels reside on my buddies 95 now...

It kinda shocked me after the flip kit how low the rear was. with just the flip according to the tape measure it was level front an rear. Due to the rubber rake the different tire sizes give it was tucking tire in the rear with a gap up front. It still looked dumb so i decided to cut the coils. I didn't think i wanted the front that low but i won't change a thing now. I don't remember exactly but it's roughly 29" to the fender in the rear an 26" up front.
