Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

you forgot about the neon orange rims. My brother and I joked about hooking it up to a disk when its done. When we were younger dad was plowing with the Deutz 100 06 and hit a few tree roots. It pulled the front wheel off the ground about a foot. I doubt if I'll get that though.

Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

This looks like a pretty cool engine, when you put a turbo on it you should have plenty of room for an innercooler since theirs no more radiator. Im subscribing.

Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

what type of gov does that engine have? if it is a constant speed type will you have to change it to a variable type? i know that detroit 71 & 92s have a bunch of different ones & a vehicle has to have a variable instead of a constant or hyd type. i didn't know that you could buy adapters for those engines. does the adapter have a company name on it? i would like to know if i could get one to a #3 sae. if i could then i'll go see fred & try to trade him outta that v10 he has. keep up good work!

Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

the injection pump is set up for automotive use. The motor it's self started its life in a chevy truck. I bought the motor off ebay when it was already out of the vehicle. The adpater does not have a name on it.

I started it up and drove it around today. Hopefully I'll get a video to put on youtube. Its weird to look back and not see a bed when driving. The only thing is my low coolant light is on.

Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

Looking good! How did you wire up the grid heater, does it come on with the key and turn off with a timer or do you just have a switch to turn it on and off?

Re: Deutz 4x4(1985 GMC)

I used a toggle switch in the cab that runs to a ford starter solenoid. The power runs from the starter to the solenoid to the grid heater. I even wired in the Glow Plug light in the dash to come on when energized. The grid heater starts to glow after about 20 secs which is enough heat.

I still have to hook the ac lines up to the compressor. Does any one know of a good way to clean up an ac system after a compressor failure?

I'm in the process of fuel mileage testing doing short trips just to make sure I work all the bugs out before I start driving it to work. It's no racer but it has some torque.
