Hood prop, no springs?

Anyone use a hood prop and discard the hinge springs? I don't think Ive ever seen this done here on the board. I wonder if it would help or hinder the folks that have the rear part of the hood that sticks up? I know there is a possible fix/adjustment for that.

Maybe the hood is just to large for this to be a thing? I have a set of NOS hinges, seems like a good way to have them last forever with no spring pressure.

If they are NOS hinges leave the springs on, they will outlast you.....

Re: Hood prop, no springs?

I don't think the prop rod would save the hinges, personally. It's a heavy hood, which means more friction than the lighter hoods on cars that use prop rods. Your best bet is to keep the hinges well lubricated.

Not to mention throwing your back out while struggling to lift that heavy hood

Re: Hood prop, no springs?

If you don't work under the hood often then its probably not an issue. For me I hate working on rigs with props. One of the reasons I dislike working on my S-10.
