I just looked at your last picture and realized you were using a 6 speed! Somehow I missed that in your first post. What ratio is in the Camaro rear?

3.45, equals a 14 to 1 out of the hole. Great for towing or burning rubbbber!

Still looking. Trying to get all my options so I can buy one that will work with my set up.
Looking at the brass cross flow from U.S. Radiator but haven't decided yet.

I've been looking at that Eastwood welder online. How well does it work? Is it MIG or TIG?

Darkgable, before I started this project I only had a 110 volt welder from sears bought 1986 when we restored the 1964 in my avatar. The reason I remember that is I graduated In 86. When this started and frame work was to be done, we realized we needed some tools and in that months hotrod or carcraft magazine there was a sale for a mig175 and a tig200 for 999.99. And they are good enough. The only comment I can make as a con is .023 wire will bend and bind with a .025 wheel groove.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Man that Poncho took it on the chin! I hope you bought it that way. When you get the truck running and have some time, please post a few pictures of the Pontiac. My son and I are just finishing up a frame off restomod of a 66 GTO (with a LQ9/T56). In the not to distant future is a frame off rebuild of a 55 chevy pickup with a 58 fleetside short bed. It will also be powered by the LS series engine from GM.

Mig175 was a separate purchase, and the tig200 and plasma was the 999.99 deal. Talked to Dad and he thinks it's great, no problem with frame work and 7/16 plate is no problem. That's what we used for motor mounts. Tig, well were still learning. Youtube has some good videos. Plasma is great too. Plus eastwood has good customer service.. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the info. I need to invest in one for when I start my build. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get it before hand to get comfortable with it.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

The welder was suppose to get the passenger side boxing plates done, but......ran out of wire and gas, and the welding gas too.The inside of boxing plates was treated with Permtex rust treatment and primed.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

I got the air plates ready to, well one of them. I made them so I could add compressors later if needed. One will work the driver side and the other passenger side.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Well not much to report. We have been welding for a week now on the frame. Went and got gas yesterday(tig and mig) and the mig is half empty already. We have gone down the passenger side to the rear and are on are way back to the front drivers side.

All that welding can get a bit tedious after a while but it needs to be done.

You're certainly making good progress (wish I was). Your project is lookin' real good. Bet you can't wait to get that Camaro rear assembly in place and get some wheels on it. Good luck.
