do not worry, i will let you all in on it, it will be grand, my friends think i am nuts. My cousin is gonna finish sanding her on monday and then it will start. I am jumping finally because it will be soon that i can drive her, so darn excited. wow it will feel good, even though she will not be perfect.

i heared about the 50 dollar paintjob they used hammerite like paint called tremclad

the cat is out of the bag, but up here it is the 80 dollar paint job. there willl be a few twists however, but that is all i can afford as of now, oh well, that is what the futur is for.

Is it the kind you roll on? I've been waiting for someone on the board to try this one their trucks as it's a possible route for my truck in the future. Best of luck with the paint job!

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...0&fpart=1&vc=1 , its a lengthy job the way hes doing it though but the dust and stench will prolly be a lot less than when using a spraygun
think it was 10 layers or so with some wet sanding in between
they used waterthin paint thinned with white spirit (think it was sumtin like 2 parts thinnner against one part paint you need to read the tread to make sure ) and some foam rollers and brushes and he painted on bare metal no undercoating watsoever .
i actually have the same paint laying around but my truck isnt done yet i was thinking on spraying it

That stuff looks interesting. I would like to see some high res pictures of the finish after polishing is done.

Years ago when I stated painting you could get single stage urethane paint called fulthane-2k I think it was dupont product. (not sure). It was cheap like $40 to $50 a gallon plus cost of reducer and activator. Anyways, that stuff was very durable for everyday drivers and hard to get overspray problems because it would stay tacky enough to blend even when got back to where you started with the paint gun. That paint would run like CRAZY if you tried to paint it like acrylic or lacquer. If you sprayed many thin layers it worked great. If could be sanded and polished too.

I totally understand you not wanting to spend tons of cash on the paint supplies. I have read about guys getting 5-7K
quotes for paint jobs on daily drivers. Wow please keep us posted on this $80 paint job.

over here you have about a foot and a half on each side on parkingspots in front of my apartment and at the shopping mall and all that these spots arent made for pickups but european and japaneese cars .
people dont care about youre paintjob or think youre not acting normal driving a big truck (the frase redneck or white trash isnt known but its close to wat there thinking over here when im parking the truck) they just bang the door intoo it or rub there buckle by to pass in between to there own car so no big buck paintjob for me i rather poor my cash intoo the wheels suspension and engine

Hold the trains here, you guys are getting way off topic, lol. If i wanted to spend a gazillion hours polishing this stuff you guys are nuts, the only reason i am gonna be doin what i do is to protect the truck for the next couple of years so that i can finish it then. I have customers cars to finish up first, that is what is important now. And i agree with you, when i started in the body shop trade umpteen years ago, that paint was cheap, not so much anymore. Besides if i wanted to have a nice shiney dust free paint job i would bring it to work and paint it in the booth. that is what i do afterall. When i do get ready to paint her, the supplies are gonna cost roughly 3 - 4 thousand dollars for what i want done, costs money which i am shy of right now. Have to do some more work for ppl. then it will be finished, besides i get to drive her before and after she is painted, the best of both worls, anyways talk to you all later.

Please parden my ignorance, but, why are painting supplies so expensive now days? The last project I did was around 4 years ago and standard Base clear.
It seemed pretty expensive to me but it was no where near 5k. More lie $500.
The reason I ask, I have about 5 projects in my future..all will need paint. I don't think I can afford to paint any of them If I have to spend that much on supplies. BTW,
I you have some crazy skills with the fab work you did/do.

think it has sumtin to do with the latest rules and regulations , over here all automotive paints are water based while the old paints where solvent based

LOL sorry guys it was a late nite last nite, bear with me, i have a few more things to finish up, i am trying to get it done for a car show herer, not sure if it is gonna happen yet or not, and not to dissapoint, i never go the paint job done, not enuf time, or enuf workers, but it does look like a truck again. so just to let you know i am sorry for no pics yet, but they will come, iknow, i know, anticipation is killing you all.
