Lowering A 69 C10 on the Cheap (possibly)

If you can wait a few weeks, I have been doing a bunch of homework on springs and shocks to lower my 69 C10 a few inches. I may have possibly reached the end of the internet a few years ago when I was home sick from work. In doing so I found most manufacturers post the specs of their products online, but its usually hidden kinda deep in their websites. With the prices these companies are charging for lowering kits, I assumed they were too cheap to have gone to a company and had an engineer figure it out, and have special springs/shocks made. For the springs, I googled moog factory springs, got the part numbers. front and rear from Summit's website. Then I went to Moog's website where they have put every spring they make with dimensions, part numbers, load ratings etc. and I looked for similar specs but with a shorter overall install height. I did the same for the shocks. I ordered the parts today from Rockauto at a cost of $238 shipped to Rochester,NY which was for springs and shocks for both front and rear. I hope to get them by next week and install them, to give you guys the results, and part numbers. I'll also let you know if it was a complete fail, it wouldn't be the first time, but somebody has to figure this stuff out.

How low are you going?
Make sure a measure your original ride height before you swap springs.

Hoping to be around the 2/4" drop. I still have drums and 6 lugs all around, and I'm not ready financially to invest in the drop spindles, discs, and new rims. I haven't really spent a lot of time under the truck to measure and look at the frame, but when I put these springs in, I want to look at the possibilities of "Z ing" the frame.

Sorry to tease, I just finished it up(9pm here), and I'm mostly happy with the results. Forgive me but I can't find my sd card adapter to upload my pictures, I need to take some finished pics, and I left some of my notes at work. Bottom line, it dropped 4 1/4" all the way around, as measured from the fenders. I took it around the block once, I'm not real happy with the ride, its a bit stiff in the front, of course I have nothing to compare it to, maybe some one who has done an ECE kit can chime in on their ride. The front camber doesn't seem too far off, of course time will tell, it drove straight down the road, nothing rubbing, I made sure there was clearance around the brake lines. Tomorrow evening I should have a full report, and pictures. As of now it looks killer.

Spring only?

3" is normally max.

Did you trim the bumpstops?
You need to post pics from under the truck so we can help.

Normally ECE suspensions ride good.
Did you cut the front springs also?

skips, i had a cpp 4.5/6 drop on mine before i bagged it. it rode alot better than stock, but not as nice as newer cars. i`m over on auburn, not to far from you.

kieth, from the sound of it he just bought some shorter springs and shocks from rock auto. not a ecc kit.

Sorry guys, but I admit failure in the front. Lolife you were right on with saying there's no way to get that much drop without hitting the stop. Its sitting on the bump stops which explains the rough ride. The rear is ok, but a couple minor mods had to be done to the springs. Sorry to disappoint, but I don't see a reason to post and confuse anyone what springs I used. At this point I think I'm going to refer to Ol SKools link.
