Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

Hey folks, Looking for idea's for my 72 Sub's exhaust.

I did what I could to connect the LS to the existing pipes, but the PO had the pipes ran and they run low and exit rear, and don't care for the look.

I'm looking to run a pair of magnaflow hi flow cats and a pair of 14" magnaflow mufflers. Thinking side exit.

Like to see some pics of what you all have, on the rack shots, rear shots, side shots... PIPES... lets see'm

Do you need the cats or do you want the cats?

I want the cats. Family rig, keep the fuel smell down and take a little drone out of it at highway speeds.

Same here. I am looking at redoing mine this July. I am considering a single 3" with a cat and magnaflow muffler to keep the noise down. its really hard to consider a single exhaust but it will sure keep the cost lower. I doubt there is really much vs a crush bent dual system.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

My Burb has a single pipe and muffler on each side with the side exhaust outlet. Don't really like the look or sound.

What I would like to do is install a system with a cross over like I have on the 56 Chevy and use a rear exhaust exit. I have been very happy with the performance, sound level and lack of drone on the Pypes exhaust.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

Mine is a ramhorn manifold dual system with H pipe exiting rear of the back wheels.
The mufflers are Flowmaster series 70's.

I want to go to an OE design single system with a large quiet muffler some day, since I am tired of the system I have now due to drone and cabin noise.

I keep my suburban stock for the most part, so this just takes me in the direction I have always gone in my restoration.

I do like the idea of a cat, since that would help with the fuel smell.

Brad,
Here is another idea though I don't yet know if it will work on a Suburban.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

I have a full dual exhaust with Ls3 manifolds with 2 1/2" pipe Borlas mufflers and out behind the rear tires with 2 1/2" pipe.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

Has anyone ever been able to compare, all else being equal, the sound of rear-exit over behind-the -wheel? I would want to go for a performance system with quiet-ish cruising.

Did you guys just go to an exhaust shop and have them custom build a setup? I just ask because Noone has said a specific system.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

I already had mufflers and cut-outs and had exhaust shop do the rest with my specs and location of everything including the length of tail pipes. This is number 4 suburban for me.
Go to the websites and listen to there mufflers and setups and then go to u-tube and listen some others that have setup theirs. Then you will know what you are looking for and cheaper buying your own mufflers and manifolds or headers and let the exhaust shop put it together and custom make the pipe for the vehicle.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

I've always had the local muffler shop make my systems.
That being said, the system in my burb was done by a local shop.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

My '72 "GMC" has a Magnaflow on it. If I had seen this thread earlier, I would've gotten a better picture:

Edit: My '72 Chevy also has a dual exhuast, don't know what kind it is though.

The cheapest way to go is buy the Flowmaster 3" U-weld kit. I needed to buy 1 extra 45* to finish the tail pipes. The Flowmaster kit is 409 stainless just like the mufflers.

TIG. the hard part was finding 409 rod. Had to buy a 10 lb. box. Anyone want any?
Also I could not find 3" collector flanges in 409 stainless. I used mild steel which requires a special rod called 309L to weld to stainless.

Re: Suburban Exhaust Pics - Lets see them!

I liked the notched bumper set up on some of the newer trucks and knew that LMC now carried something like that, but didn't want to buy a new bumper when mine was just fine. So I cut out some semi circles and re bent my exhaust and added some 3 inch tips.
