What's Up With Google?

Is it just my computer deciding to do what it wants or did Google drop out of the search game? I am on a Google account with a Google main page with a Google search bar, but when I click "Google Search" I get Bing results. Do I have a virus? Not only am I getting the search engine I do not want and did not chose, when I click "back" it acts like it doesn't want to leave the page that was forced on me. I can click 20x and it stays put. Thought I'd ask before shooting my computer.

Re: What's Up With Google?

In the Google browser, if you go to settings (three dots in the upper right hand corner) and then scroll down to search engine choices, you can verify that Google search is your primary search engine.

Also, if you click on the BACK button with your RIGHT mouse button, you can choose where you want to go back to. Sometimes the page you are on loads multiple times for some reason.

OUCH. Hurt me. I always wanted one of those. A V8 Vega is high on my bucket list. And a rare panel makes it that much sweeter.

Check your browser settings. Many times when Windows does a major update, they reset your settings to the default (Bing) search settings. It will still pull some from Google, but the primary search choice is Winders Bingie.

If Windows just did a steamroller update, it may have broken Google. You could reinstall Google, or install a different browser which still uses Google search, like Opera or Firefox. I think you can add other search engines like http://www.dogpile.com

If you are going to re-install Google, you might want to back up your bookmarks to avoid losing them during a meyhem update.

If you have a Google icon on your desktop, you can edit the properties to add a default open tab, by adding a space after the entire target "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" and typing Google, or Gmail, or whatever works for you. Add a space and a new address for extra new tabs when Google opens.

That might save you some time cruising the Web.

Re: What's Up With Google?

I use Firefox. For some reason the initial tab I get is Google, and it has a "search Google" box to click. Any other tabs I open are Firefox.
https://screenshotscdn.firefoxuserco...d89e50b9ea.png

I click search Google on a Google browser and get Bing. On the Google browser I get at first, I click on the three dots and get no option for search engine choices

I search "Why no Google search? and get these results... with Bing that I didn't choose:

http://time.com/3969401/windows-10-cortana-google/

http://fortune.com/2017/05/04/window...google-search/

I click the next page arrow to find more results and it keeps giving me the first page. I click on 2 and it's not Bing, It gave me some other BS that showed two results that said ads for Why no Google search? Ok, that happened once. Now it does the same thing as hitting the arrow. So I'm not only kept from the search engine I choose, I am only allowed to view one page on the one that is forced on me. This is total bull crap manipulation. I didn't buy a computer and pay for service to be aggravated by some multi-billion dollar business shoehorning their crap on me.

Open Firefox. Click the short stack in the far upper right corner. Choose "Options". Select the "Search" icon over in the left. Uncheck Bing and check Google. Check anything else you want. X out.
Oh wait, you have a google browser. I don't even know what that is. Sorry i couldn't help.

Yeah, well thanks anyway. It did give me something to try, but no change. When I do all that it shows Google as my browser. Under "one click search engines (scroll on down) Google is first and checked. For alternatives, just yesterday while trying to figure this out, I chose Yahoo and Wikipedia, not Bing.

Re: What's Up With Google?

I also use Firefox, and Google works OK for me. No clue what the problem might be.

Yeah Larry, I got a email saying Google + is going away and telling me what to do to save my stuff there. Only thing is, I had never heard of Google + and am not aware of any account there.

I do NOT understand computers at all.....

OK then, go ahead and shoot the POS. May I suggest a 12 gauge 00 load at about 12 feet.

Re: What's Up With Google?

Yeah, just a bullet hole wouldn't be satisfying. This thing needs some pepper! That other BS that wasn't Bing when trying to go to page 2 was called Shopping Search or something like that. It took a while to load. I saw it once more but mostly just Bing. I'm ready to bing some programmer in the head! I don't understand computers either. The more I know the less I want to know. Life was good without paying for this aggravation from an electronic device.

Did you chose it or was it forced on you. I knew kids who wouldn't eat carrots and I would. Their parents forced them on them and mine didn't. If I chose to change I would get used to the changes. Because I didn't chose, I will likely never consider it... if I can get rid of it.

Re: What's Up With Google?

You can also remove Bing as a choice with in the search options of each of the browsers. But I know Google Chrome and Winders don't always play nice with each other. Samer with Firefox. Make sure when checking the options in Firefox or Chrome that Google is the top or default search choice. It can be listed, but may not be the default.

I've done/tried all of this. I am given no choice to delete and search engine listed in my options. I have Google set as my default as well as an alternative. Under "find more search engines" I get "Firefox add-ons" and selected "Google (default)".

I am a humorous guy and I appreciate all the kidding. But this is serious. I don't always get Bing. Sometimes it's something that just says search in the upper left and it is only for searching products. I type in what I am searching and if there is a product or products related to any words I get shopping results.

I am remembering one thing. I somehow got to where I didn't have Adobe Flash. I would be asked if I wanted to install it. Just the other day I did that, and they want to force feed you McCafee which in my experience is a virus itself. I use Avast and feel quite comfortable. It is already checked for install but I uncheck it. I'll bet it's that crud mucking up my computer. Guess I'll go uninstall Adobe Flash. I need my search. It's half the reason I use a computer. I thought this was information technology, not help a monster corporation beat out the other. I hate all that. It's what's wrong with America... seriously. Not healthy competition any more. It's cut throat greed. If this thing on my lap was a differential I'd have it rebuilt by now.
