61 C10 Steering Column

Looking for steering column suggestions for my 61 Short Box Project. I plan to go auto on the column. A tilt column would be nice. Just wondering what others have used or preferred?

Thanks for your time and info, Dave

Re: 61 C10 Steering Column

In my experience dinkin'around with junk yard stuff has only led to frustration. These days all the good stuff from the old days seems to be gone. I urge you to contact a reputable vendor of aftermarket columns and discuss your needs with them. It won't be cheap, but it will be safe. The install will be done right and you wont be trying to hack your e-brake mechanism only to wind up with something that has poor geometry. If your gonna do it, jump in with both feet and spend the bucks to go power steering.

Re: 61 C10 Steering Column

find an automatic (powerglide) column from a 59-60 impala. change out a couple pieces from the manual column in your truck now and it`s just like a 60-62 truck automatic column.

Re: 61 C10 Steering Column

I'm running a 72 tilt column in my 65. The best part is that I was able to use my deluxe steering wheel on it. I'm trying to figure out how to modify an original shifter to use the base that goes into the column so it looks more original.

Re: 61 C10 Steering Column

I ordered a Idid it column for my 62. It has been on back order since December and I should get it next week. I was getting tired of the worn parts in my original column and that turn signal switch set up. I'll let you know how it comes out if you want?

I think you can buy the 66 type knob. Put it on the 72 shift lever.
