1964 c10 build

So i think I'm going to start writtting and posting about my build, I bought the 64 in may 2015, I have done a lot to it, I least I think I have since this it's my first time working on anything like this before, when I bought the truck it had a 5.7 vortec and a 4l60e, and a lot of rust and a lot of bondo in top of it 😂😂, That just meant that I had to learn how to weld and how to be patient, like I said before, I think I have done a lot to it since I bought it, but since I don't have a garage or the tools its been slower that I would like. This forum have help me a lot, it been before I had the truck I spend a lot time researching and reading a lot of you guys builds. Thank you !!! I will be posting all i have done since I first bought it.

Welcome to the forum

It appears that the engine is currently not running? Has the harness been modified and the PCM reflashed yet?

Re: 1964 c10 build

Thanks captainfab, when i bought the truck the engine started but I didn't run so I did I little bit of research and I found out the 4l60e had a mechanical speedo sensor on it, so I bought a sensor for a 1998 c1500 and a new gear, installed and I got the truck running, I guess the previews owner got the engine and trans from different vehicles, I'm thinking they got the harness and pcm fix too.

If you decide to change your hood don't sell this one. You might have a change of mind and switch back one day.
Like what you're doing.

Re: 1964 c10 build

So I soon as I got the truck I started to see If I was going to have to buy a new engine and trans because I didn't know if the engine or trans ran, so I did the essentials, top up the fluids, engine and trans, hook up the radiator, check the wiring, new fuel pump relay, the truck had a gas tank from a blazer in the back of the bed. Everything work ok, runs fine, shifts ok after I got the speed and gear install on the 4l60e, temperature is normal, I haven't check the oil pressure because it pretty hard to get to the port in the back of the engine. What I'm thinking is that I'm going to keep that set up, and if for some reason it dies I'm going to do an Ls swap later on.

Re: 1964 c10 build

This was after I got the truck running, I started to take the front end apart, the radiator support was rusted out in the bottom part, the inner fenders had rust in top part where it meets the rad support and a bunch of holes in both of them, at the time I didn't have a mig welder, so I took the to a local shop to see if they could fix them for me but they wanted a lot of money so I went ahead and bought new inner fender and the radiator support and battery tray. I still have the originals, just in case I have fitting problems later on, I think I can fix them my self now.

Re: 1964 c10 build

Before I put the new inner fenders I remove the control arms to install new ball joints and tie rods, then I wire wheel the front part of the frame, Then I used some summit racing chassis paint, then I moved to the back, took the bed of and I started to take apart the rear suspension, I had to grind and cut off most of the rusty bolts. Same as the front, degrease, wire wheel , and then paint.

Have to make a Safety comment.

I see in the pic you have the frame rails resting on the cement blocks.
Cement blocks can burst/fail at any moment without notice. ~friend of my dad died due to failed cement blocks~
Please do not use cement blocks. Please use jack stands or wood blocks.
You have a great build under way and would hate to see you get hurt.

concerned truck guy,

Or at least flip the blocks correctly so the cores are vertical and the block can take the load as designed. Safety first.

Yeah makes a lot more sense now that I'm seeing the picture. Hopefully I don't have to use the block anymore. Thank you.

Re: 1964 c10 build

After the front and back of the suspension was clean and painted I order a 3/5 drop kit from cpp, (lowering springs, shocks and adjustable panhard bar).not the smoothest ride but I plan to do front disc brakes and drop spindles in the future.
