4 Corner Cooling??? Does anyone use it?

Hey I was just wondering how many of you use 4 corner cooling on your intakes. If you do or dont please voice your opinion on the topic. I was just wondering if it was worth doing or not.

Thanks guys!

Re: 4 Corner Cooling??? Does anyone use it?

I have used it before. I don't have any scientific proof, but I don't see how it couldn't help, since all of the water goes from the block, up into the heads, and then out the water neck. All the water in the rear of the heads must travel to the front of the heads before it can exit.

Maybe if you're making 1.4 HP/CID or better there's something...but otherwise I can't see the benefits showing up on the dyno.

Agree with Ticker. The only time I personally would plumb it is in a wilder forced induction or nitrous application where more even heat control is much more vital to parts life......

Re: 4 Corner Cooling??? Does anyone use it?

So instead of using it I should just plug it off? I've seen many people put the water temp sending unit in one of the holes but I was told not to do that. What do you think?

Which intake are we talking about here? In general, yes - you'll need to plug all unused coolant ports.

I have put the temp sender in one of the rear ports when I ran out of holes in front and it worked just fine. I have also connected the heater hose there to clean up the plumbing in the engine compartment and that worked fine too.

Hang on a sec - on most GEN I SBC manifolds any port behind the carb pad is going to be a vacuum port since as noted there is typically no coolant passage in back.

No, all the way to the rear, where the manifold covers the water ports on the heads. Stockers don't have any holes there but a lot of aftermarket manifolds do.

Plug them if not being used. They are NPT thread.

Plug 'em...

The best place for the temp sending unit is in the stock location in the cylinder head.

The problem comes up when you swap in a later engine and want to keep the stock temp gauge in the dash. The early sending unit is too big for the hole in the later heads, so you have to install it in the manifold.

Re: 4 Corner Cooling??? Does anyone use it?

Gotcha... I've always had the early SBC's (and heads) and used the hole in the cylinder head.

Re: 4 Corner Cooling??? Does anyone use it?

Prior to late 68, when they started drilling the heads out, the temp senders were located in the intake. I don't think it makes much difference either way.

Yes, those are the trucks I am talking about. When you do an engine swap on one of those, the stock sender for the original gauge won't fit in the head.
