Question Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

I got an 05 Silverado and was wondering if any of you have painted the gray part of your front bumper or do they come in black? I think mine would look better black but I would like to see yours if you've done it or if you have a black one from the factory. ??

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

There is a guy here locally that has a white truck, and he painted the plastic parts on his bumper white to match. It looks really good. I think on your truck if you painted it black I would do a flat or satin black.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

I'm getting ready to paint mine black plus I changed out the middle chrome bumper to paint it black also.
I think yours would look perfect in a red/chrome/red paint scheme. (kinda like this pic)

I paint them occasionally, hardest thing is sanding because its textured and just makes it a little rough just because it should be a quick paint job but its not too bad.

No the paint will blow off the first time you hit the car wash, sanding it and using a good primer helps adhere to the plastic better and it looks a ton better all smooth and matching the paint of the truck i think.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

I think it would look good black. I replaced mine with a black one off an '06 tahoe z71, but my truck's an '02. I did some looking for you and it seems the ones w/ out fog lights are black and w/ fogs they are gray. At least thats what it says in the item description. Here's the link: http://www.car-stuff.com/mmparts/che...r_valance.html

When I replaced mine, the old valance was pretty scratched up from rocks and such. I had considered painting mine but was worried it would get scratched up real easy. Here's a pic of mine.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

My black truck in the above pic with the graffitti background is how my 07 classic came from the factory with grey textured top and bottom bumper pieces. I have seen a smooth painted top piece usually on HD models but never seen a bottom smooth factory valance.
I've also never seen any truck with a painted middle bumper, seems like all trucks came with the chrose or a light grey abs plastic piece. So I bought a metal paintible one from lmc.

I thought that was a pic of my truck at first but I've never parked beside a graffitti wall before.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

What are your door handles off of? how much lift and what size tires?

The first thing I added were the tail light covers. I now have a roll pan getting painted should be ready next week to go along with the front painted bumpers.

Any tips on prep and what type/grit sandpaper to use? I'm planning to do my '07 when it warms up.

I was thinking sanding it some and using high build primer to help smooth it out?

Um i would use some 220 see how that does then 320 then to a 4 or 6 hundred to get it real smooth because you will see that there will be a ton of little plastic pieces when you primer it sticking up but just resand it with some fine sand paper.

Yeah high build primer works good too, hardest part is getting the plastic smoothed out really.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

Here are before and after shots on my 06 Silverado SBCC. We installed Escalade handles, mirror caps, and smoothed the lower valance. The upper cap was already smooth and painted.

Re: Has anyone painted their ft lower bumper on a 05?

Scott thanks for the prep input. I hope to start my black out bumper job very soon.
I looked into getting the Regnecy bottom bumper valance becuz its already smooth and has the 2 round holes in the middle but rengency will only sell regency parts to regency truck owners. The person I talked to said that they don't want everyone making there regular silverados into regency look-a-likes. Kinda like the SS bumper craze. If you look closely the SS bumpers side skirts and rear roll pan differ from GM vs the street scenes kit.

N2Trux I'm jealous once again of your nice trucks and denali!!!

Get the part number and do a Google search. I found an aftermarket replacement piece in primer for 50-60ish
