Valve question

i have a question about hooking up the valves together. does it matter which side of the valve ("in" and "out") is facing when hooking them together? im running my 8 valves in sets of 2's for each corner. i just got my loctite in today and would like to fit everything together. thanks

Re: Valve question

the direction definitely matters. If you have them backwards they will leak down.

almost all valves have and in and out.

Re: Valve question

ok thats what i thought. mine do have "in" and "out" on them. so the air from the tank goes to the "in" side, and the "out" side goes to the t fitting, to the "in" side of the other valve, and the "out" side (of the second valve) is just open, right?

Re: Valve question

yup, correct. be sure not to use teflon tape. it gets into valves and makes them leak. use thread seal or pipe dope sparingly. if you do get leaks just make sure the valves are where they can be taken apart easily while installed to be cleaned. They will pick up trash from time to time even if you have filters and screens.

Re: Valve question

thanks. i started putting them together last night and already ran out of that .02 oz loctite that suicide doors sells. i cant believe that little bastard was 3 bucks. i only got 2 sets finished. i used a little more than "1 dot" to make sure. seems like you really cant put too much of that stuff on.

Re: Valve question

just dont want to use enuff to were it can get into the air supply and damage the valve diaphram. when i was younger i had the more is better mentality to teflon tape and ruined a few valves. and that was back when they were about 60 a piece and befor i was smart enuff to ask

Re: Valve question

ya, I was kind of hesitant to use the tape after reading a few threads on here. with the loctite, I put a drop or 2 on the first 3 threads. I just need to find a place local that has it

Re: Valve question

teflon tape, plumbers have been using it for years. i know i am going to get bashed for telling you this, i teflon taped every fitting in my truck and takes two months to go down. first dont tape over the fitting end, second rap it three times in the direction of the treads. it will be fine. if done right it will not leak and it will not get in the valves.

Hell ya I hate that pipe dope. I use teflon tape on all my installs. But do what texastrendz said and you'll be fine.

Loctite 545 is the best stuff to use bar none. I got a 1.69oz bottle for like $10 shipped on ebay.

I say,... YOU try it and tell us how it works.
I know Loctite 545 works.

Re: Valve question

And,... the bottle of Loctite 545 I bought was $29.00.
But that beats tearing eveything back apart, cleaning threads, reassembling, and leak checking again.

This is what Suicide Doors and other companies recommend.
Its a hydraulic thread sealer for high pressure joints.

Let us know how your product works. It may be a cheaper alternative.

Forget the Teflon tape and take lolife's advice ... Loctite 545 is head and shoulders above anything else out there.
