Rods 57, your truck looking real good. My 57 had same problem with the height. I cut one coil out the ride was smooth & low for a few years. Over time my cut coils lost spring tension & riding on the bump stops = Very rough ride. I installed new springs & two inch drop spindles very smooth & low. Leave your coil springs in & try two inch drop spindles first.

Not really, unless sanding dust is an update. I do have a pic of some work I did for my mother in law. I call it practice for my truck...

Re: Rods 57

got some stuff done. Had my seat frame and springs powder coated 60% gloss black. I know only a few inchs shows but it will never rust. I also got a different steering wheel I only paid $35 for it total, I had the center section already. Also just fitting the doors and getting the springs out decided to go with 1 inch lowered springs up front.

Re: Rods 57

Made some progress this weekend fitting the passenger door, this is the one that wouldn't shut and I had to stretch the frame 1 1/2 inchs to get it to close. now it looks like this. The last picture is the fender touching the rocker, after I took the picture I adjusted it forward to line up the gap just right. now I can blow it all apart and jam the cab and doors, yea paint.

I got a little time in the shop today, I cleaned up the casting burs on the exhaust manifolds and got them painted with high heat.

Re: Rods 57

Also mocked up my e-brake handle. I have had on old wrench, 1935 -1942 series of Bonney. I am putting it as the handle, tell me what you all think...I am not going for a rat rod but really love the old stuff used in a truck.

Re: Rods 57

Ok so i looked into the wrench idea more and I think its too nice to use as well as some of you guys thought. so i took an extra door handle and notched the e brake rod and got this...

I also pulled out the springs to see what they were and they are the right ones, light wire and so I am just powder coating them and back in they go. i used a lot of tape on my control arms and no issues taking them out which was my big concern.

Re: Rods 57

I liked the wrench, but I wouldn't want to bang my knee on it. I think the way you ended up doing it is easier on your body parts and looks good too.

Re: Rods 57

Did a little bit of work over the weekend. the drivers door had a previous repair, and not very good. I started to fix it then just decided to make a new skin for part of the door. Also POR 15 on the inside while I had access.

I liked how it was turning out so I cut out the corner that has bugged me since day one and this is how it sits now, still have some pin holes and grinding to do but wanted it to cool and do that slow to avoid to much heat and shrinking it.
