Custom Grille Ideas...

Been gone a while (had a bunch of things come up that once again kept me from working on my truck). I've run into a creative roadblock that has kept me from fleshing out something with my 66, and figured you fine gentlemen may have come across some ideas in the past. I want to do something unique with the front end of my truck, but can't really find a lot of inspiration. You guys seen any real nice grille/front end customizations with the 60-66 GMC/Chevy trucks? I'm looking for something semi-modernized. Pics are always welcome.

Here are a few custom grille photos I’ve collected. Nothing much with a modern touch however:

Re: Custom Grille Ideas...

Old truck I had been given. Original owner said the light housing were from a Buick and tubing was used for the grill. Cool but kind of dated.

Re: Custom Grille Ideas...

Thats kind of where Im at. The semi-faux billet grille look. The front end of these trucks has an iconic look, and I certainly dont want to muck it all up, but some of these pictures atleast give me something to work with.

Re: Custom Grille Ideas...

I saw a picture several years ago, of someone who took their original grill and modified the headlight "doors" to accept square headlights. If I can find it, I will post the picture.

It looks like a 1960 grill but I made it from electrical conduit and had it chromed.

Here's a photoshop of a plan I have using earlier C10 bits I have. I just can't bring myself to hack the decent `63 grille that's in it.

Go down to picture 5 of 22. The front grille gets a cool make over. The rest of the truck is pretty incredible also. http://www.trucktrend.com/features/1...66-c10-unruly/

Re: Custom Grille Ideas...

I always thought that the 67 camaro grille with the round headlights and round turn signals would look good. Sorry, I don't have the photoshop skills to pull it together. Here is the look on a 67 C-10.

I can visualize it on our trucks and I believe it would look really cool.

Re: Custom Grille Ideas...

I always thought it would be rad if someone could pull off fabricating one of the prototype grills that GM was experimenting with. Some of them are crazy, but a few are genuinely very nice and would be a cool period correct style customization.

(this one almost made it into production for '65)
